J oining a fraternity can be a life-changing experience, shaping not only the college experience but also influencing your career and personal life. Joseph Depa '01 embraced the brotherhood during his undergraduate years and utilized the network and values he gained to make a significant impact in the field of healthcare analytics. Joe initially joined Alpha Tau Omega because he felt an immediate connection to the members. "At the end of the day, it's the people that mattered," he recalled. As an undergraduate, Joe served as the alumni relations chairman and the IFC vice president. These roles allowed him to connect with both alumni and the broader Greek community. Earning a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering and, later, a master's degree in analytics, allowed Joe to pursue his passion for data-driven problem-solving. His career took an interesting turn as he progressed from a corporate role as the head of Accenture's global data and AI practice to his current position as the chief data and analytics officer for Emory Healthcare and University. "I've always enjoyed using data to solve business problems and have a particular interest in using data to progress healthcare and research to help improve lives," he explained. When he considers the impact Alpha Tau Omega had on his career path, Joe emphasized the importance of the fraternity network. "Alumni led by example, showing the key is to always give back when you can and help others along the way." He now offers his own valuable advice to undergraduates, saying, "The world is moving fast, and what you learn today will be out of date by the time you graduate. The skill of learning and relearning is one of the most critical skills you can have." One of the most enduring aspects of ATΩ is the lifelong friendships our brothers form. Joe is no exception. He shared, "A core group of us still get dinners together every couple of months and love keeping each other honest and making fun of each other!" He also shares this unique bond with his younger brother, Michael Depa, who followed in Joe's footsteps and joined ATΩ in 2005. Joe currently resides in John's Creek, Georgia, with his wife and two sons. He stays actively engaged in the community, coaching his sons' soccer teams and playing in an adult soccer league. Additionally, he is deeply involved in supporting the Childhood Cancer Community, a cause that holds personal significance for him and his family. Their efforts center around raising funds and contributing to organizations like Cure Childhood Cancer, Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, and St. Jude. If you'd like to connect with Joe, you can reach him at joe.depa@gmail.com.
