The capital campaign is in our rearview mirror, but we continue to make improvements to 603 Kentucky. A Special Projects Committee was formed in December 2022, and the collegian representatives helped generate a wish list of areas in the House to be refreshed. Topping the priority list by a landslide were the foyer and basement study. The third wish was an ice cream machine! The foyer was tackled in March 2023. Navy grasscloth wall coverings were added to the archway of the front door and the bump-out accent wall to bring some depth and drama. Two larger wingback chairs, recovered in a navy accent fabric, were moved in to match the scale of the room. The furniture was flipped from right to left to improve the sight line from the front door to the staircase. New lamps, pillows, and art completed the look. The basement study was completely redone in August 2023. The old furniture, wooden study carrels, and desk chairs were removed. Navy shiplap was installed on the south wall to serve as the main focal point, and medium-tone floating wood shelves were added. The wall was divided into four separate study spots, each with a lamp and a gorgeous brown leather chair accented with nail-head trim. On the opposite wall, a comfy white sectional and floor lamps were added for a more relaxed reading and study nook. The room was finished off with pops of orange, pink, and cream delivered through new art, pillows, and accessories to create a cozy, but fun, study space. While an ice cream machine was not in the cards, the committee did manage to use the remaining funds to purchase an espresso maker for the kitchen. Now, every Theta can make herself a latte to go on her way out the door to class. But those aren't the only changes taking place. With the capital campaign ending, we will be sending out this newsletter once instead of twice a year. It will continue to update you on important chapter and FCB activities. Sadly, two of our long-serving FCB members are retiring. Angela Stewart '81 and Cori Leonard Young '82 worked tirelessly on budgets, finances, pledge collections, legalities, plans, and construction before, during, and after the campaign. We owe them a huge debt of gratitude! Finally, this is my last article, as my second term as FCB president ends in April. We will have a new slate of officers leading us forward. It has been an honor to serve as FCB president, and I look forward to continuing on the board. Now that we are on the subject, if you'd like to volunteer to serve on the board, please shoot an email to me at the address below. Embracing Philanthropic and Academic Excellence ALPHA MU GETS INVOLVED ALPHA MU GETS INVOLVED 2023 has been an eventful year for Alpha Mu Chapter! The winter semester began with a celebration for Founders Day, where we gathered to honor the history of Theta, organized by Alumnae Relations Director Rachel Skosky '21 and Vice President of External Affairs Grace Radke '21. In February, we participated in spring recruitment and brought home 17 new members. I-Week was held at the end of February and new members were initiated on March 4. February also consisted of our annual spring philanthropy event, CASA Carnival, where we had carnival-themed food and games at the facility. We also hosted a new event, a Cornhole for CASA tournament. Overall, our spring philanthropy events raised over $11,000 for Heart of Missouri CASA and the Kappa Alpha Theta Foundation. Our chapter then began preparing for Rockin' Against Multiple Sclerosis, a student-run campus philanthropy that supports the Mid-Missouri Institute of MS. At the conclusion of RAMS, we placed first in Rock-It, a lip-sync dance competition, headed by Dance Chairmen Holly Jacobson '20 and Ireland Shelton '20. We were the first-place sorority and second-place organization overall. Following our participation in RAMS, we jumped straight into Greek Week. We participated in the blood drive, service events, sports, and Fling. With the men of Kappa Sigma and Sigma Phi Delta, we placed first in service and blood and placed first overall!
