Page 2 THE DULINE W e've received word of the recent passing of Mike Konen '78. Mike was a great supporter of DU and will be missed. Steve Katsinas '78 said it best: "Koney was the consummate gentleman who never had a harsh word to say about anyone or anything. He was always thoughtful in the comments he shared and always had your back. We lost a good man who made those around him better. Heaven has another terrific ambassador and someone who will be watching over his family, friends, and all DUs." In Memoriam Honoring Michael Konen '78 T he Illinois DU class of 1973 celebrated in style this August with a special 50-year reunion event in Champaign-Urbana. For some of our alumni, it was their first time back on campus since graduation 50 years ago. A special committee was organized to create one of the largest-attended Illinois DU events since the 100-year anniversary gala. Attendees enjoyed a program of events that celebrated 50 years of brotherhood for this special class. First, we held a swanky group dinner at Hamilton Walker's restaurant. Special guest and renowned Chicago architect Chuck Bleck '90 provided details and insights into the upcoming Chapter House renovation. Afterward, famous DU Craig "Swede" Johnson '75 (also called Math Professor) gave a memorable speech on how the DU brotherhood positively affected his life and career. Next, the Chapter House hosted a delicious outdoor barbecue. Close to 100 attendees, including undergraduates, enjoyed an evening of camaraderie at the house. After dinner, brothers took photographs of various groups of alumni and spouses/guests. A special thanks to Jacob Wolf '25, chapter president, for helping to coordinate the event with the reunion committee. Also, thank you to Adam Rudofski '25 for taking alumni group photographs. Later, the university organized a special campus tour for our alumni and guests. We toured the Assembly Hall (State Farm Center), Memorial Stadium, IMPE (now called ARC), Siebel Center for Design, Gies College of Business BIF, Illini Union, Main Quad, ISR Residence Hall, and more. A special shoutout to Lowa Mwilambwe, associate vice chancellor for student affairs, and Ashley Dye, director for fraternity and sorority affairs, for putting together a very informative tour! Finally, for the sports enthusiasts, there was golfing at the Atkins Golf Club and bike riding along a special local route organized by Trent Shepard '73. It was remarkable to witness the lifetime bond of this special group of DU brothers! 50 YEARS OF BROTHERHOOD Dylan Bozen '27 | Lockport, Ill. Jimmy Degnan '27 | Villa Park, Ill.
