Mu Chapter Strand of Pearls 2 Tamar Nadler Sternfeld '97 Operations Advisor Volunteering since 2020 Profession: Social worker and registered nurse; currently working as assistant director at Camp Judaea in North Carolina. Why she volunteers: "I loved my time in AEPhi, and I was excited to have the opportunity to give back to the organization that has given me so much." Membership impact: "AEPhi was the first place that I was chosen to be a part of. Prior to that, at every phase in my life, the groups that I was involved in were all ones that I opted in for. The group of women I met in AEPhi helped this out-of-state Illini feel at home. I was welcomed with open arms and finally found my people amidst the sea of students where I would have otherwise felt lost. I am thrilled that my daughter has now joined our sisterhood and gets to find her own people 25 years after I found mine." Favorite AEPhi memory: "The year I lived in the house, I was asked out on a date on the same night I was supposed to go out with my roommates; although they insisted I go out with him, helped me get ready, and waited with me while he was 30 minutes late, I still felt guilty. That same guy ended up proposing on the steps of the house 18 months after that night, and we are happily married 23 years later. My roommates were bridesmaids in our wedding!" Marni Walner Waters '01 Lead Advisor Volunteering since 2006 Profession: Patient experience manager at NorthShore – Edward-Elmhurst Health. Why she volunteers: "I believe in our organization's mission and values. I want to support our members and alumnae as they learn, grow, and lead in ways that are meaningful to them through this special and unique experience." Membership impact: "First, this was the place I knew was special when I arrived on campus. I was welcomed and my interests, passions, and leadership were fostered here. I also met my husband during an AEPhi event my freshman year through a sister who introduced us—thank you, Kathleen Wilson D'Erizans '01!" Favorite event: "Our new member dance has always been my favorite. It is a way for the new members to show their personalities and interests, work together as a group, and plan an amazing event for the whole chapter to enjoy." Becky Dolinko '12 Membership Experience Advisor Volunteering since 2020 Profession: Seventh grade special education teacher. Why she volunteers: "To give back to the chapter, as it made a significant impact on my life and gave me my best friends. I love volunteering because I enjoy creating relationships with chapter members and helping the executive board leaders grow." Membership impact: "I met my best friends in AEPhi, and I am so grateful for that." Favorite event: "The annual trip to Curtis Orchard and Barndance!" Emily Magid '15 Finance and Community Relations Advisor Volunteering since 2023 Profession: Human resources advisor. Why she volunteers: "AEPhi was my community away from home. I gained my first leadership experience as house manager, which laid the foundation for me to take on other leadership roles at the university and into my current career. I hope to provide the women with a great experience in AEPhi— one they can look back on and cherish the memories." Membership impact: "I have gained lifelong friendships and invaluable experiences that have shaped who I am today." Favorite AEPhi memory: "Living in the house for two years. I loved walking down to the living room or Moy Foy and having so many different people to talk to." Amanda Shane '17 Recruitment Advisor Volunteering since 2021 Profession: High school English teacher. Why she volunteers: "I truly missed being involved in sorority life. While I knew volunteering for AEPhi would look very different from being an active member in my chapter, I knew that it would allow me to feel that connection I had been missing." Membership impact: "I have met lifelong best friends and gained invaluable experiences. Sorority membership has helped me to develop skills in communication, relationship building and, above all, leadership." Favorite AEPhi memory: "The night of my Big/Little reveal during my freshman year. The night was so fun and exciting, and I will never forget being so excited to finally have my big and the feeling of officially being a part of an AEPhi 'Phamily.'"
