A Sisterhood Filled with Friendships and Women Who Make a Difference Honored to Be a KΔ Zeta Chapter of Kappa Delta at The University of Alabama - Fall 2023 The Katydid T his fall has been filled with many fun festivities, and we are delighted to have welcomed 135 new members into our Chapter. Serving and representing the outstanding women in Kappa Delta has been an honor. Kappa Delta makes a difference not only in its members' lives but also in the lives of women and children in the Tuscaloosa community and nationwide. We are proud to support our local philanthropies, Child Abuse Prevention Services and Crossing Points, and our national philanthropies, Prevent Child Abuse America and the Girl Scouts of America. We encourage each of our members to become the best version of themselves and reach their full potential. Our women are also involved in many of UA's campus organizations such as Capstone Men and Women, SGA, UA honor societies, athletics, campus ministries, and club sports teams. I am eternally grateful for the friendships KΔ has brought me, as I am constantly encouraged, supported, laughing, and having a blast with the women I am surrounded by. From late-night studying to cheering on the Crimson Tide, KΔ has been one of my biggest blessings. I am so excited to see this Chapter continue its legacy and mission to build lifelong friendships, active leaders, engaged community members, and opportunities and experiences that foster personal growth for a lifetime. We are so grateful for your continuous love and support. Roll Tide and AOT! Love in AOT, Frances Lyon '20 Past Chapter President A s Kappa Delta's vice president of inclusion, I've had the opportunity to organize and take part in many fun and educational events for our members! Throughout the year, we implement DEI in our Chapter through our inclusion newsletter, speakers at Chapter, and DEI events. Our inclusion newsletter highlights topics during Black History, Women's History, Child Abuse Prevention, and Stress Awareness Months. Our main goal with the newsletter is to educate members on pressing topics that are relevant today. In addition, members are encouraged to attend on-campus DEI events hosted by the Student Government Association. One of our main priorities is to ensure our members are provided with health and wellness resources. We have speakers at Chapter to emphasize the resources our women have access to, such as the Counseling Center and the Women and Gender Resource Center. This year, we also added the position of the "safe sister" to our Chapter so members have a trained, confidential person to go to with any concerns they might have, regardless of the topic. We consistently advocate for mental health throughout our Chapter by openly discussing issues such as stress and anxiety. Love in AOT, Kate Amberson '20 Past Vice President of Inclusion Educating Our Members on DEI and Sharing Resources Keeping Kappa Delta a Safe Space for Our Sisters A ugust 20 was an exciting day for Kappa Delta. We welcomed 135 new sisters and were eager to help the women feel right at home in Kappa Delta while falling in love with The University of Alabama. We were quite busy at the beginning of the semester with our Bid Day retreat, a North River pool party, many sisterhood events, surprises, and stop-and-go chats with each of our new members. We also had weekly stage meetings and a garden-themed Big/Little reveal. These events were all in preparation for our new members' formal initiation, which was held on October 1. The women enjoyed having themed swaps with six different fraternities on campus, and we even hosted Phi Gam, DKE, and KA for dinner swaps at the Kappa Delta house. Our women would meet at the house before the swap, and we would all walk over together. It was so much fun! It has been such a pleasure seeing our members make lifelong friendships and call Kappa Delta home. We always look forward to seeing each of them at the house, and we know they will continue to enjoy everything Kappa Delta has to offer.
