Page 6 SigEp Gator Heart L ooking back at his freshman spring recruitment, Matt can see why SigEp was in his top three. "I felt comfortable and fit in well with the kind of brothers they were looking for," he noted. "The guys were fun, smart, athletic, and cared about their grades and the brotherhood." Florida Alpha was the first house Matt visited during recruitment, and he has never looked back since accepting his bid. Whether it was leading the Surf Frenzy philanthropy event, being social chairman, late-night poker games, or coming up with new attractions for SigEp Safari, there was always a chance to have fun with other brothers. Activities like these helped Matt learn time management between his engineering studies and SigEp commitments. It also helped him grow as a leader. "Getting things done within SigEp and on campus required a plan, influence, and hard work to motivate your peers and colleagues to get stuff done." Matt has used similar skills throughout his IT career. He spent over 15 years at GE and is now Chief Information Officer at Zebra Technologies, working with a great team to improve people's lives through technology. "IT is not just about creating applications—it's about creating change and making technology better for the people that use it," he explained. Matt joined the Florida Alpha Alumni Board in 2015, eager to help bring Florida Alpha back to campus and ensure a top facility for its new members. "It has been a great learning experience through the years, and it's rewarding to see how much Florida Alpha has flourished since our return to UF." Matt encourages young members to embrace every opportunity SigEp provides during school, cherish those years and friendships throughout life, and then give back to SigEp after you leave. Whenever Matt comes back for a UF football game, he loves to tailgate near the house and stop by the alumni room and see how the Chapter House and members are doing. Most recently, he attended a game in September with several brothers he hadn't seen in years. He has also stayed engaged with SigEp by participating in Carlson Leadership Academies and the SigEp professional development program. "I truly want to pay it forward and give back more than I have received from SigEp. Whether it is now with Florida Alpha or in the future at SigEp Chapters in Atlanta, I hope that I can make a difference in the lives of future members." In his free time, Matt enjoys spending time with his wife, Christine, and twin daughters, Addi and Emme, as well as doing triathlons and woodworking; he also puts on quite the automated holiday light show display.
