30 www.DesertMessenger.com October 18, 2023 SPECIAL SECTION �������������������� Serving The Communities Of Quartzsite, Ehrenberg, Brenda & Bouse ������������������� ������������������� SEE PG. 3 FOR INFO Deena's Nail Care Ribbon Cutting Busy week in Q politics QUARTZSITE- Within an hour after the regular meeting of the Quartzsite Council Meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2009 Council Member Hal Davidson emailed the Desert Messenger a copy of his short letter of resignation, stat- ing, "The reasons are many...It has been a great honor serving Quartzsite, but I feel I am no longer of any use to the current Council." Earlier that evening, after going into executive session, the council voted to approve the contract with Town Man- ager, Alex Taft, voted Barbara Cow- ell as Vice Mayor, appointed Patricia Anderson to a vacant seat, and gave "Acting" Mayor, Wes Huntley monthly stipend of mayor, among many other decisions. On Wednesday, Oct. 28, notice was posted for a special session to be held on Thursday, when the Council ap- pointed Jerry Lukkasson to fi ll the seat vacated by Davidson. Deena's Nail Clinic held a ribbon cutting to celebrate the new business opening at Palm Plaza on October 30, along with the Quartzsite Business Chamber of Commerce. Everyone who attended got a tour of the facilities after the offi cial ribbon cutting was done and speeches were made welcoming Deena to our town. There was a great lunch served and door prizes were given. Deena has many special treatments available for those who need help with their feet and nails, and has different rooms for men and women along with many other great features. Monday, October 26, 2009, Ed Fos- ter fi led criminal procedural charges against "Acting" Mayor, Wes Huntley, Council Members Hal Davidson, Bob Kelley, Jose Lizarraga, and Barbara Cowell. The charges range from "mal- feasance in offi ce", "usurpation of of- fi ce", violation of ARS 38-444 (regard- ing receiving awards). Foster submitted a Letter to the Edi- tor with full details to the Desert Mes- senger on Sunday. New Council Members, Jerry Lukkasson and Patricia Anderson were sworn in early Monday morning at Town Hall Oh, happy day!
