LA PAZ COUNTY, AZ- The La Paz County Health Department has received a limited supply of H1N1 vaccine from the Arizona Department of Health Services and will begin vaccinating individuals in the first tier group as required by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The health department will continue to re- ceive H1N1 vaccine from Arizona Department of Health Services on a weekly basis. "As more vaccine starts coming in, we will be opening up the tier groups to include more people. The CDC has said that eventually we will have enough vaccine for every person who wants it," explained Diana Grazier, Director of Nursing for the La Paz County Health Department. Tier 1: · Children 6 months through age 4 (up to the 5th birthday) · Those who care for or live with children under 6 months of age · Pregnant Women · Health Care workers with face to face contact with patients · Ages 5 - 18 with chronic conditions. (e.g. asthma, diabetes, heart or lung conditions, cerebral palsy and suppressed immune system) After the first tier group has been vaccinated, the H1N1 vaccine will be available to Tier 2: Tier 2: · All health-care and emergency medical services personnel, · All persons aged 6 months to 24 years, and · Persons aged 25 to 64 years who have medical conditions that put them at higher risk for influenza-related complications (e.g. diabetes, heart dis- ease, asthma, and kidney disease). Tier 3: · All other persons requesting vaccination. La Paz County Health Department has two forms of vaccine. One is flu mist, which is a live, attenuated (weakened) version that is approved for healthy in- dividuals with no chronic conditions. Pregnant women, children younger than age two, or people with chronic conditions should receive the injectable form of the vaccine. Walk in clients are accepted, but we do suggest that if you live a distance away that you call first to make sure a nurse is present in the office (sometimes they have to leave the office to conduct public health activities). The H1N1 vaccine is voluntary and free of cost at the La Paz County Health Department. Individuals who are not in the first tier group can still take preventative mea- sures until more vaccine is made available. Simple basic measures can help stop the spread of influenza and protect our community. · Stay home when sick: This year 1 in 4 people may get sick with the flu so plan accordingly. Stay home if you are sick and keep sick kids home too. You or your child should stay home until fever free (at least 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medications) and have a plan to be home possibly up to 7-10 days. Talk with your employer now about company policies. For more information on H1N1 go to www.stopthespreadaz.org Let's work together to keep our children and community healthy. And, that's just one of the many things we love about Quartzsite and our communi- ty. There's always something worth talking about. And, the Chamber ad- mits to giving everyone reason to talk that… the Chamber was closed (this summer). Yes, the Chamber was closed, and it had been closed for the summer. "It was simply the economy…", Jim McGovern answered to the active of- ficers, directors, members and towns- people attending the Oct-5th mem- bership meeting. "By summer, in this economy, we simply ran out of funds to keep on the lights, phones and, at times, the water," McGovern added. Rumors did abound, and one such rumor circulated in a letter to the membership that inferred – should the Quartzsite Chamber be closed for good and disbanded ? After all, there is the Business Chamber – do we actu- ally need two Chambers ? At times, it can be puzzling to many. But, we are two distinctly differ- ent organizations – and the Business Chamber, Cee and Tony, Joanne and Paul, provide very good services to Quartzsite, our Visitors and its busi- ness membership. Candidly, there is more than enough demand and need Pledges to Continue Serving - the Community, Tourism and Growth… Quartzsite Chamber of Commerce Resumes for "good information about Quartz- site" to be disseminated everywhere in Town. One organization or location just cannot do enough… Many of our Visitors are here for the day, weekend and longer – and when they have a question or need directions – each Chamber willfully provides very friendly, courteous service and good information about Quartzsite and our area. And, it is worth more to our Quartzsite guests and our Community, than all the questions, why are there two Chambers… So, the Quartzsite Chamber officers, board members and volunteers have resumed and pledged to continue serving the community. Phones, elec- tric and volunteers have resumed at the Chamber. The Quartzsite Chamber of Commerce has a fresh perspective for Community, Tourism and Growth. Each Chamber in every town, city, state and in our nation has a Mission. It is incumbent upon the Quartzsite Chamber to fully develop and execute a new Mission for Quartzsite and our returning Visitors, residents and citizens. The QCOC and Arizona Tourist Information & Visi- tor Center vows to be here, as we have been since 1986, promoting "the good information, events, activities and ser- vices… of Quartzsite and our area," stated McGovern, as the meeting ad- journed. The good work continues... Make er, to Woman's you nity cause. "Walk 2009. thon and youths.
