William P. "Bill" Jolly celebrated his 100th birthday on the 9th of June. Dr. Jolly was in the pledge class of 1941. He was initiated on April 12, 1942 as #565 on the chapter rolls of Gamma Phi chapter. During his first semester at OU, Pearl Harbor was attacked on December 7, 1941 and the United States declared war on Japan. Jolly was called into active duty, but was allowed to stay in school as part of the Army Special Training Program. He became a doctor, and in the third year of his residency the Army sent him to Korea. In 1956, Jolly became the second board-certified internist at Comanche County Memorial Hospital in Lawton, and he still lives in Lawton. To commemorate the occasion of his centennial birthday. The Beta Theta Pi general fraternity presented him with an attractive framed certificate that says "On the occasion of your 100th birthday, may this celebration be a joyful reminder of a century of living life to the fullest with fond memories of your days as a Beta." Signed by General Secretary John Stebbins and President Tom Cassady. D ue to the generous support of our alumni during our capital campaigns, our house at 800 Chautauqua was rehabilitated and expanded nine years ago. The Beta house in Norman is one of the finest fraternity houses in the country. It serves as the hub of the Gamma Phi chapter as a place to meet and study, and it provides housing and food service for 80 of our members. I want to again thank all of our alumni that contributed to this historic renovation and expansion project. It is very satisfying to see all of the ways the Beta house is utilized everyday of the academic year. It is our desire to make the "live-in" Beta experience as pleasing as possible with good living and studying space with superb food service. We also want to provide that experience at the lowest possible cost to our members. The cost to live in the Beta house is $1,500 to $2,500 per semester lower than the OU dorms. Alumni play an important financial role by providing needed funds for major repairs and replacements. Also, we do not have any budget or funding for the tailgates that are hosted at the Beta house for football games. The donations that we receive at the tailgates do not cover the cost for food, drinks and sometimes entertainment. Alumni support is needed to fill these gaps in funding. I would ask that you consider a donation to Beta between now and the end of this year. You can make a tax-deductible donation that will go directly to support our house corporation by mailing a check to the Beta Theta Pi Foundation, P.O. Box 6277, Oxford, OH 45056. Please note "Oklahoma DEA" in the memo line of the check. Or, you can make a gift online at gift.beta.org/ oklahoma for "Securing Our Future." Yours in -kai-, Robert S. Beall '80 Campaign Chairman
