Between the house corporation trustees and our roster of alumni advisors, we are blessed to have many volunteers who see to the maintenance and operation of 800 Chautauqua and assist the chapter and our undergraduate men. Indeed, I would say this tradition has been crucial to Gamma Phi's consistent record of excellence and providing the meaningful Beta experience we all hold dear. Serving as an alumni volunteer can also be a very rewarding experience. It's amazing how much difference one person can make by volunteering time and advice for the chapter and our men in various ways. While we're fortunate to have a great roster of house corporation and advisory volunteers, we can always use a few more good hands. For example, there are certain specific areas we could really use some assistance—some long term, some short term. Our volunteer "wish list" includes the following: As you can see, there are many ways for a helpful alumnus to make a big difference. If you'd like to step up for any role, we'd be delighted to hear from you. You can contact me at zach.allen@crowedunlevy.com. Yours in -kai-, Zach Allen '85 House Corporation President GAME DAY TAILGATE COORDINATOR Most of the legwork is handled by our housemother and chapter alumni relations chairman. But we could use someone to help with the strategic planning for these events. HISTORIC PHOTO PRESERVATION We have a small treasure chest of historic photos. We'd love someone's help with reproducing, matting, and framing them for permanent display at the chapter house. IT-RELATED NEEDS We could use help with any or all of these (and maybe more): • CLOUD-BASED SERVER It would be a major organizational step forward to have a centralized cloud-based server for house corporation and chapter files/documents. • ONLINE CONTRACTING We sign our annual housing contracts and financial agreements the old-fashioned way: hard copy/wet ink. Moving that to an online system would be a helpful step forward. • EMAIL COMMUNICATIONS For many years, we've used an email listserv to communicate with alumni. It gets the job done, but there are likely more effective and efficient options. • CHAPTER SURVEYS It would be useful to have a means of periodically conducting surveys of the chapter membership and/or alumni. • WOOGLIN ON CHAUTAUQUA EDITOR Most WOC content is provided by alumni volunteers and chapter officers. Our consultant, Pennington & Company, handles the publishing work. We need an editor to coordinate collection of content for each newsletter issue. A/V SYSTEM The basement study hall/chapter room doesn't have any audio-video facilities. We'd like to change that. We need someone to research options and oversee installation. ALUMNI SPEAKER SERIES We strive for opportunities to have various alumni speak to each pledge class. But it doesn't happen as frequently or regularly as we'd like. We need a volunteer(s) to organize and manage an "alumni speaker series" for pledge classes. ALUMNI MENTORING PROGRAM We've seen examples of these programs at other Beta chapters in which alumni are paired with pledges as mentors. We see a lot of potential for such a program with Gamma Phi. This will take a dedicated organizer to make it happen. SCHOLARSHIP ADVISOR This advisor assists the chapter's scholarship chairman and may help coordinate available scholarships or other support from our local Beta Foundation. PHILANTHROPY ADVISOR Philanthropy is an important part of the chapter's mission and activities. An advisor for the chapter's philanthropy chairman could be helpful. TRACKING DOWN "LOST" ALUMNI Gamma Phi has over 2,000 living alumni. We have an outstanding alumni directory that's managed by our chapter archivist. There are always many alumni for whom we don't have current contact info. The archivist could use an assistant willing to track down these alumni. INSTRUCTIONAL PROGRAMMING We think it would be beneficial to develop PowerPoint training content for our pledge classes concerning matters like alcohol, hazing, etc. We'd love someone to take the lead on this.
