T he Beta Kappa Chapter House experience is always evolving, though one constant, even after a brother's time in the house, is lifelong brotherhood. Graduate brothers like Mike Mills '78 recognize the impact of longstanding connections beyond college, which is why he is glad to support Boulder FIJI: Not for College Days Alone! Not Yr Avage Grp "In 1977, I came across these guys and recognized they were different," Mike remembered, getting his first glimpse at the restarting Chapter. FIJI's new house needed major work before members could move in, but Mike and his brothers invested their time into the young brotherhood's new home. Mike took pride in the group's effort to establish a comfortable space for Beta Kappa at the time. "We got that place cleaned up and the pool up and operating. I had a great senior year in that house." Strengthening those fraternal bonds formed as a young man, Mike has retained many valuable relationships with graduate brothers to this day. From golf outings to football games in Arizona, California, and beyond, Beta Kappa brothers have rekindled their connections over the past 20 years and reinforced the meaning of ongoing brotherhood. Professial Life At 22, Mike utilized resources on campus and found a job examining banks for the government. Three years out of college, Mike pivoted his career and worked the next 18 in banking before spending 26 at Merrill Lynch. Retiring in June 2022, Mike settled down after working his dream job as a financial advisor. Alongside career work, Mike has volunteered for 40 years between the Arthritis Foundation and teaching disabled skiing through the National Sports Center for the Disabled. "It's morphed into different things over the years," Mike added. "I'm very involved with a group of adults with intellectual disabilities … I ski and play softball with those guys, and Special Olympics is also part of it." Suppting the Beta Kappa Hse No stranger to helping others, Mike supports Beta Kappa's campaign so he can ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for today's members. Mike hopes to see fellow brothers take initiative in the campaign and consider the impact of those connections they enjoy today. "If I can help someone else like me in the Fraternity now to facilitate those kinds of relationships down the road, I'm glad to do it. I'm a little unique because I was only there for a year, but I highly value those relationships I have now." A new Chapter House can mean a bright future for Beta Kappa, which is why Mike encourages others to reflect on their college experience and recognize the role of the Chapter House.
