Sigma Phi Epsilon - Missouri Gamma Chapter 310 S Arthur Ashe Blvd Richmond, VA 23220-5706 Address Service Requested BEARTRACKS Letters to the Editor "Sorry to hear about Peter Koppel '50 (Chapter Eternal/eTRACKS). He and Bill Shepherd '51 were the two smartest brothers in our class. There were a lot of WWII vets at that time, and we learned a lot from them. SigEp changed me from a boy to a young man. By the way, the old El Caney bar down on the Frisco RR tracks was our place to unwind on Friday nights." –Robert Flore '52 "Thanks for the excellent article ('A History Lesson with John Priest '52'). It was really well thought out and you did a great job. I regret that I gave you the wrong address for the Pine Street house in the article. That address was for a Frank Lloyd Wright house on the shores of Lake Michigan that my wife and I thought was his best design ever." –John Priest '52 "I enjoyed the latest issue of BEARTRACKS (spring 2023); I was in the house with eight of the guys mentioned in the St. Pat's article. Your interview with John Priest '52 echos the early history of our Chapter." –Michael Klosterman '69 "I enjoyed reading the spring BEARTRACKS and always try to catch all the eTRACKS. The 'Brothers Loving Life' series in eTRACKS is great. As a matter of fact, I saved them because I have a trip coming up to Arizona and I saw Randy Gault '73 is there and I would love to visit with him. You guys are doing great with the communications. Keep it up!" –Gerry Wappelhorst '73 A recent study found that fraternity and sorority members were more likely to succeed in college and beyond than their non-Greek peers. They are three times more likely to obtain an internship while in college and two times more likely to have a job waiting for them when they graduate. Students spend 90% of their time outside the classroom. SigEp and other Greek- letter organizations capitalize on those hours by preparing men for success in college and in their futures far beyond what their peers experience. Eighty-three percent of members say their confidence in their leadership skills increased because of their membership. A study of thousands of alumni of diverse backgrounds shows this holds true regardless of an individual's background or socioeconomic status entering college. Behind every great organization is a group of valuable volunteers. Because of higher expectations, as well as the support and network fraternities provide, members experience greater gains in learning and graduate at higher rates than their peers. Volunteers and alumni are that support, and SigEp could truly not do this incredible work without that support. Your Missouri Gamma AVC Board works many volunteer hours to keep SigEp at the top of fraternal organizations, but they can always use your help. If you are interested in helping your Chapter or possibly volunteering with a SigEp chapter in your area, check out sigep.org/resources/alumni-and-volunteers. Research Reveals the Importance of Greek-Letter Organizations Thanks to all those who contributed to this Newsletter. This edition of BEARTRACKS welcomed Kevin Hubbart '86 as a guest writer, who has a unique ability to convey his memories of times past. The communication team is continually working together to keep our MO Gamma alumni informed, and to keep SigEp in your hearts. Steve, Rocky and myself share ideas every couple of weeks, in between telling old stories, and are always up for new ideas and any thoughts you may have. Let us know your stories, suggestions for articles, or comments about what we have published. If you are not getting eTracks, then we need your email. If you not getting a printed BEARTRACKS, then we need a good mailing address.
