W ashington Chapter has experienced an exciting stage of regrowth and reinvigoration. After spending nearly two years at the Delta Upsilon rental property and dealing with the challenges that came with it, we have finally hit the one-year anniversary of moving back into the Temple. It took some time to completely shake the feeling of the "DU Hangover," as we've come to call it, but we as undergraduate Brothers are now as ambitious and hopeful as ever as we bring back past traditions and look to start our own that will last for decades to come. Changing Mindsets In early February, the active Chapter took the trip to the Mount Rainier area to host our annual retreat where we discuss improvements and house goals and spend quality time together strengthening the brotherhood. However, the exact format of this retreat looked different than usual. Instead of spending most of the time discussing specific bylaw changes and bringing up qualms that one may have with another, we attacked the attitude problem that had plagued us since DU. With Mt. Rainier looming large in the background, we all agreed that we needed to shake the negative attitude that had been floating around for far too long and reestablish what it truly means to be a Washington Alpha Delt. We concluded that an Alpha Delt is one who is proactive, prideful about the place we live, pushes others and themselves to be their best, and looks for reasons to make things happen. Since this retreat, there has been a complete shift in attitude among the undergraduates, with people going out of their way to assist in doing what's best for the greater good. This reinvigoration has been exciting and leaves me ecstatic to see what is to come. Bubble Bash Is Back It had long been a goal of ours to restart Bubble Bash, our philanthropic auction for the Seattle Children's Hospital Stanley Stamm Camp, after a two-year hiatus due to COVID-19. Luckily, the stars aligned this year for it to come together as Preston Ball '23 and Ethan Staats '24, fresh off their runs on the executive committee (president and secretary respectively), took the reins. Through trial and error, many long hours, late nights, and challenges, we were able to successfully hold this year's auction and donated $48,000 to the Stanley Stamm Camp. With Ethan coming back to head up the organization of the event once again, and with a year of experience now under our belts, we are optimistic that next year's auction, and those for years to come, will only get better. Bringing Back Traditions We have been able to restart many Temple-only traditions that make Alpha Delts who we are. One such tradition is Spree Week, a weeklong event in the winter where we hold Alpha Delt-only events every night to spend quality time together, grow stronger relationships and, ultimately, strengthen the brotherhood. Another less-exclusive tradition that we've successfully brought back is Spring Dinner on The Lawn, where we invite one of our closest sororities to come by for an evening of nice weather and great food, thanks to our lovely chef Jen Lewandowski. This year, we held the event with Kappa Kappa Gamma, and we look forward to making this a staple of our spring quarter once again. SETTING Chapter Goals During the first Chapter of every quarter, we take time to set goals for that quarter and review how we're doing in our quest to accomplish our larger yearly goals. This year, we settled on three prominent goals: hold a successful Bubble Bash (check!), run a successful recruitment cycle, and win the EO Blackman at this year's International Convention. With recruitment already off to a great start, Secretary Bennett Miller '25, PNWAADP President Mike Derr '84, and I look forward to attending this year's Convention, where we are hopeful that our philanthropic, recruiting, and Chapter-building success will culminate in recognition from the International. As undergraduates, we are proud of the bonds that have been made over this past year and look forward to the rest of the year and those to come. To local and nonlocal alumni: if you haven't yet had the chance to tour the Temple in its rebuilt state, I encourage you to come by when you have the chance. We are forever grateful for the efforts that alumni have put in over the years. Please feel free to contact me for a tour. Wishing all the best to everyone. It was our first chance to host this event since the rebuild, and it was a great success! The fall 2022 pledge class celebrates with two of their pledge trainers at the Winter Initiation Banquet.
