Thank You, Gordy Richards '54 A special update by Gordy's brother Bruce Richards '62 and niece Tiffany Sommers (who flew in from Dallas for the Founder's Day dinner) provided some insight into why Gordy and Carol Richards included Sigma Nu in their estate planning. It all came down to the special long-term relationships that Gordy formed at Gamma Chi; several of them attended the dinner to honor Gordy, who is still alive in an adult care facility in Bellevue. is unrestricted gi, which is believed to be the single largest gi from one alumnus in the history of the UW fraternity system, has allowed the Clubhouse to make significant improvements that have been deferred for decades. A summary of what their gis have already helped us accomplish, and a preview of what's to come, can be found in the Facility Updates article on page 2. SIGMA NEWS SIGMA NEWS A PUBLICATION OF THE GAMMA CHI CHAPTER OF SIGMA NU UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON s SUMMER 2023 O n ursday, April 27, the largest alumni and active gathering in many years occurred at e Hub. A sold-out banquet room with over 150 alumni and active chapter members had a great time catching up with their pledge brothers and alumni friends, along with getting to hear Husky football coach Kalen DeBoer speak about the team and, what should be, another highly successful season. Bringing Brothers Together A special thanks to brother Bruce Kroon '81 for not only securing the speaking services of coach DeBoer but also doing a great job of emceeing the event. Jon Magin '06 provided an update on the Clubhouse, which has no debt and a healthy balance sheet thanks to the unrestricted gi of brother Gordy Richards '54 (see more info about Gordy's generosity in the box to the right). Jeff Roberts '81 provided an update on the completed and planned house improvement projects that total close to $1.5 million. Rob Williams '87 was awarded the signed Husky helmet Bryan Roberts '83 donated to the event. We had a full table of alumni who were in the house in the mid-1950s (Blake Eagle '52, Denny Peterson '52, Phil Sandberg '53, Gerry Alexander '55, and Choo Nisbet '55) and several tables filled with alumni who stood to honor the 20-plus years of cooking by our incredible cook, Geri. ank you to all who came to celebrate, and we hope to see even more alumni at the next one! Relive the moments on our YouTube Channel youtube.com/@SigmaNuUW. Thank you to everyone who attended our Founder's Day gathering! Rob Williams '87 holds the signed Husky helmet.
