SIGMA NU 2 G ordy Richards '54 and Carol Richards' unrestricted gi to Gamma Chi Chapter continues to be strategically utilized to make our chapter house one of the most updated in the Greek system. To recap, in 2020, the first $500,000 gift produced a fully remodeled kitchen. In 2022, all exterior windows, interior doors, and floors, along with new keyless door hardware and hot-water tanks, were replaced. We focused on upgrades to the facility that did not require a permit so we could implement the improvements quickly during COVID while recruiting was a real challenge. The cost of this work was approximately $1 million. A consultant team of architects, mechanical/electrical engineers, exterior building skin engineers, and contractors are working on the next phase of improvements that will start in July and require permits. ese improvements include: • A new restroom on level two that will be located under the third-floor restroom and a conversion of the second-floor sleeping porch into three new study rooms. • A smaller sleeping room. • A lounge study space. Extensive exterior brick repairs and new mortar tuck pointing are wrapping up to ensure that we are watertight aer decades of damage to steel beams that support the brick above the windows on level one. e cost of these repairs and improvements to level two is estimated at $950,000. ank you, Gordy and Carol. We've Accomplished So Much! What's Next? As incredible and impactful as this gi has been, it is not enough to get our facility up to the level of the Alpha Delts, whose fully renovated building cost $10 million, which seems to be the going rate. We are holding off on very important upgrades to the 22 study rooms due to cost and strategy on tax-deductibility options. ere are several alumni working on a plan to get these funds secured over the next 2-3 years. Come See Us or Visit Us Online! Stop by the house soon if you haven't seen these updates for yourself.
