F inding sisters for life is magical. It's even more special when those sisters are already family. While Audrey Burgoon '19, Pam Blackwell Burgoon '87, Greyson Woerpel '16, and Julie Blackwell Woerpel '83 are already close, being Tri Delta sisters adds one more connection to their relationship, and they have loved sharing the sisterhood. Finding the Sisterhood Finding the Sisterhood Before college, Julie's sister-in-law taught her about the recruitment process, telling her she'd just know what sorority would be right. By the end, Julie knew it was Tri Delta. Pam already knew that her sister, Julie, was a Tri Delta, which is what initially drew her to the sorority. That, combined with the strong sisterhood filled with genuine and friendly women, made her stay. With two Tri Deltas in the family, Greyson told herself she wouldn't pledge just because they did. However, each time she went to rank the sororities, she kept coming back to Tri Delta. She felt welcomed by the members and enjoyed real conversations with them. They allowed her to share her stories and be herself. House tour day sealed the deal. She started the tour with Claire Reid '14. "I felt comfortable enough with her that I interrupted and asked a question about the closet at the top of the stairs, 'Is this still a phone booth?' She was puzzled and asked me to explain. I told how, one night when my mom was home studying, she was the only one to hear the phone ringing. When she went to pick the phone up, it was my dad, whom she had broken up with. After that phone call, they got back together, and the rest was history!" While Audrey also went through recruitment with an open mind, the same genuineness her family members experienced, as well as the women's diverse interests, made Tri Delta perfect for her. She especially admired Theta Iota's love for St. Jude. "You could see the members light up when they spoke about their philanthropy events, and I craved the ability to make an impact and be a part of something larger than myself," Audrey shared. Lifelong Frien Lifelong Frien During their undergraduate years, each woman made countless memories that they continue to cherish. Pam recalls having a blast doing skits and the Tri Delta chant during recruitment, and Julie always loved singing, "It Only Takes a Spark," which made her realize one person can make a whole group come together. She also embraces the lifelong friendships she made. "About ten of us are still on a text chain to this day. That means we have known each other for over forty years," Julie shared. "We went from 18-year-olds to some being grandmas." Greyson especially loved Preference Day 2019. As she was walking down the stairs, they let Audrey in through the front door. As soon as the cousins saw each other, they immediately started crying. Later, Audrey told Greyson, "I knew when I saw you, I had to go Tri Delt." A New Alumna A New Alumna Although she only recently graduated, Audrey knows she has also found her friends for life. She recalls when she was a freshman, Greyson, a senior at the time, told her that she had yet to meet all the people who were going to love her. Now, Audrey has found her Tri Delta family. She can count on sisters like Alison Murphy '18, Brooke Erdley '20, and Kayleigh Bellamy '20 and was never surprised to see her sisters in the audience of her theater shows. Shared Initiations Shared Initiations "I had no idea my sister was coming to take me through initiation, and when I turned around and saw her, that was very special," Pam shared. "Sisters in more ways than one." While Pam and Julie told Audrey and Greyson not to go Tri Delta just because they did, they couldn't be happier they joined. They loved surprising Greyson at initiation, and a few years later they all surprised Audrey at hers, which was special. Audrey and Greyson even wear their moms' Tri Delta rings they were given when they were initiated! Sisterhood f Life Sisterhood f Life As each new family member has spent time at 1834 Laramie Street, they have all enjoyed sharing stories of what's happening in the house and how it has changed while also having a blast attending Mom's Weekend, philanthropy events, football games, and Rush the Alums as both family and Tri Deltas. Now that they are all Theta Iota alumnae, the women are looking forward to making many more memories together. page 2 From Family to Tri Dea Sisters From Family to Tri Dea Sisters The Burgoon and Woerpel Families Share Special Memories Alumni and future Tri Deltas visiting the house.
