F ollowing the highly successful Building on Ron Reeves' Legacy capital cam- paign, several brothers active in the campaign joined the Gamma Gamma Board of Trustees in November and December, temporarily in- creasing the ranks from 11 to 16 mem- bers. Jerry Matthews, '77, Rob Banerjee, '78, Rick Stanley, '78, Bob Pease, '80, Kenny McCleary, '83, and Nathan Wright, '88, joined while Mike Benefield, '95, rotated off the Board. After over seven years as Chair- man, Brother Jason Lueking, '95, handed the gavel over to Brother Banerjee. Brother Stan- ley took on the role of Vice-Chairman, Broth- er McCleary was appointed Secretary, and Brother Rex Phillips, '82, is transitioning to the Financial Advisor position long held by Brother Brad Munchel, '08, who will be rotat- ing off the Board shortly to focus only on the Housing Corporation Board Treasurer posi- tion after serving several years in both roles. As an advisory organization, the expanded Board has prioritized several areas which need additional attention. Due to COVID influenced chapter demographics, in Decem- ber the chapter elected the youngest slate of new officers in probably decades (2 juniors and 12 sophomores). With the relative inex- perience of the new officers, it was recog- nized that additional new officer training and help with the transition process would be very beneficial. An enhanced new officer orienta- tion was developed and delivered in Janu- ary. Additionally, each new officer was as- signed a BoT mentor to help develop a sim- ple, concise "playbook"with key responsibili- ties documented to help with the new officer training and future transitions, as well as help guide each officer in development of appro- priate goals for their area of responsibil- ity. This work has been helpful not only to the chapter leaders but has helped the BoT identify several areas where chapter manage- ment processes need to be strengthened, in- cluding the Judicial Board process, Social Service, Rush, and Pledge Education. Additionally, the BoT has been working with chapter leadership on party management, which has surfaced as a high-risk activity needing better discipline, access control man- agement, and tightened compliance with Rose and ATĪ© National policies. A number of changes have already been made to reduce risk and several more will be implemented in the coming months to reduce risk and im- prove party safety. As can be seen on the membership chart be- low, the BoT has a good balance of industry and business experience, chapter leadership experience, and younger members. We also have a wonderful faculty advisor in Dr. Bill Weiner who is highly respected at Rose and on the Board and is a wonderful advocate for students. With nearly 100% turnover of chapter leadership each year, having a strong, active Board of Trustees is vital to the ongo- ing success of one of the most decorated, suc- cessful chapters in the annals of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. We believe we are well positioned to provide the guidance these young men need and deserve to help navigate and enhance their college experience.
