2 M any young men discover fraternity life through an influential figure in high school. For Tom Roberts '70, his high school band director was a proud KU Delt alumnus, and he encouraged Tom to check out K-State's summer recruitment. After his father's colleague wrote a letter of recommendation, Tom was impressed by the chapter and made the decision to pledge Sigma Chi. LESSONS IN LEADERSHIP "My Sigma Chi brothers helped me learn to dress for success, served as leadership role models, shared in deep discussions about our Ritual and its meanings, and have been lifelong friends," Tom shared. Through Leadership Training Workshops, late-night song practices, and road trips with brothers, Tom gained a deep appreciation for what it takes to be a leader. CONTINUED CONNECTIONS Throughout the '80s and '90s, Tom would remain connected with Sigma Chi through LTWs, alumni gatherings, and more. He even had the chance to lead the singing at the Significant Sig ceremony of Jim Palmer, Virginia '60 in Baltimore. Tom served in various capacities as alumni chapter president, LTW faculty member/division chairman, Grand Praetor, Dean, Praetorial College and President, and in the Order of Constantine. Thanks to university connections complementing his recruiting/HR position with B&V Partners, Tom found the opportunity to return to K-State by working in the engineering dean's office. FAMILY MATTERS Tom had a lifelong dream to initiate his sons into Sigma Chi, and he was proud to pin the White Cross onto Greg Roberts '93. While Greg had a much different undergraduate experience from his father, Tom and Greg cherish their deep father/son bond. Tom and his wife, Karen, have worked hard on strengthening alumni family connections over the years. Tom is especially proud to help plan alumni events, and he takes time to visit brothers whenever possible. "Thank you to Doug Burton '89 and other alumni who take the time to work with alumni and undergraduates," Tom added. "All honor to their names!" You can connect with Tom and share your fraternal bond at tcrksusig@cox.net. THE STRENGTH OF SIG BONDS Tom Roberts '70 on Family, Fraternity Values Tom in Olympia, Greece, in October 2022. The continued improvement to leadership development programs makes Sigma Chi a world leader. I am proud to be a Sig!"
