Hot and Cold HVAC The chiller system is 10 years past expiration. The heating is still supported through radiant heat. The current system is obsolete and inefficient. An updated system is necessary to provide better air quality and air-flow, along with much needed space, with the benefit of lower monthly heating and cooling bills. Bothersome Bathrooms We have had ongoing problems in the bathrooms with poor drainage and water-flow issues. More durable and up-to-date materials to better handle the wear and tear, improve the water flow, and allow for much improved cleanability is strongly advised. The upstairs bathrooms are intentionally not shown during recruitment. We currently do not have any ADA-accessible bathrooms. Sad Sleep/Study Rooms Most rooms have not been remodeled for 40+ years, and the current layouts do not optimize the space available. Many of the desks need replacing and closet doors are inoperable. Some of the closets are still located in the hallways. Outdated Electrical Dim lighting contributes to the unfortunate aesthetic of the sleep/study rooms. Poorly located outlets and an outdated Wi-Fi system add challenges to today's "connected" lifestyle. Exposed Fire System Our fire system and pipes are totally exposed on the ceiling and should be replaced. Putting the system in the ceiling will improve aesthetics without compromising safety. Critical Needs at 1433 3 W e are all intimately familiar with the beauty and charm of our beloved house at 1433 Tennessee Street. While our house still looks great, there are significant challenges that cannot be seen but require our attention. Our Kappa Chapter Facility Corporation Board, consisting of volunteer alumnae, has identified critical repairs and replacements related to the HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems. Industry professionals provided assessments of the current conditions and options for addressing them. The results are irrefutable—immediate investment in the critical infrastructure is needed or we risk the possibility of serious damage to the house and the potential of major disruption to our student occupants. What would Bettie Locke do?
