Leadership, Service, and Growth Our Kappa Sisters Excel in Every Way DELTA PSI NEWS Kappa Kappa Gamma • Texas Tech University Spring 2023 T he spring semester has held many achievements and accomplishments for the sisters of Delta Psi. We started the year by sending three of our executive board members to the Kappa Leadership Convention in Dallas, Texas. From February 10-12, Morgan Morris '20, PJ Marano '20, and Rylee Oldham '20 met Kappas from across the country and learned an abundance of new information to bring home to Delta Psi. They were able to absorb exciting ideas that other chapters use at their schools. They also reconnected with our leadership consultant, Alana Dean, who visited Lubbock in the fall to teach us about our new leadership structure. An Eventful Semester We had a series of successful events in February, including a Galantine's sisterhood event at the lodge, the first giveback for our philanthropies at Blue Sky, and our first date party of the semester with Tri Delta and Kappa Alpha Theta at the Willow's Event Center. We recently received our Pan Pal for the semester, which is another Panhellenic sorority we are paired with to spend time together. We are pals with Chi Omega this spring and helped organized a sorority yard sale at their lodge in March. Mom's Weekend The first weekend of March, we hosted our Kappa Mom's Weekend. We started with drinking mocktails and enjoying a special shopping experience in the lodge. Local boutiques in Lubbock held "pop-ups" in our home so sisters and moms could shop together. LYLAS Forever, a permanent jewelry store in Lubbock, even set up a booth for matching mother/daughter bracelets. The next morning, we held our annual brunch at the Watson building. The Pickers serenaded the attendees with "Sweet Home Kappa Gamma" and "Wide Open Spaces," and Academics Excellence Director Caroline Autry '21 spoke about the academic accomplishments of our members. Staying Involved We have new additions to the Kappa Pickers, a musical group that sings at special events. Gracie Murray '22, Amy Adams '22, Grace Sieck '22, and Mae Klein '22 were chosen to join at the beginning of the semester. We also have numerous members who are involved in different activities across campus. Mckeely Underwood '21, Molly Orr '21, and Kallie Blacklock '21 were chosen to be at-large senators for Student Government, and Zoe Luckett '21 was elected as treasurer for the Engineering Club. We are so proud of all our members and their involvement on campus. Making the Grades Our members continue to excel academically, and after grades were finalized, we were announced third among the 12 sororities on campus! We have 58 members who received a 4.0 GPA and 85 members who received a 3.5 or higher. We also had the second-largest number of members make the Dean's List among the sororities on campus. What's Ahead We are looking forward to upcoming events this semester, including the annual Kappa Klassic golf tournament. We hold this event in conjunction with Dad's Weekend, which is scheduled for April 14-16. The proceeds from the tournament are donated to The JED foundation, a non-profit organization that protects emotional health and works to prevent suicide in teens and young adults in the United States. We are also working hard on the spring formal, Monmouth, which will be hosted with Pi Beta Phi on April 21. This spring semester has already been so fun, and we can't wait to see what the rest of the year holds! We are looking forward to making many more memories with our sisters.
