As an undergraduate, Brooks proudly served as Texas Alpha Chapter president before beginning his long career as a dentist. He remained connected with our chapter as a longtime AVC member and earned the honor of joining the Texas Alpha Alumni Hall of Fame. We will remember Brooks as a devoted SigEp brother, a husband of 63 years, a father, and a grandfather. Clyde "Lance" Hurley '59 passed away on November 20, 2022. A former Captain in the Marine Corps, he also had a long career in the financial services industry for 40 years. He enjoyed historical reenactments, portraying Patrick Henry and George Washington, and became an ordained minister later in life. Harold is survived by his wife, Zetta and two children, son Merritt and daughter Elizabeth, and three grandchildren. Harold D. Orr '60 passed away on January 8, 2023. Harold graduated magna cum laude and received his undergraduate and master's degrees in geology at UT. After graduation, Harold joined Humble Oil and Refining (now Exxon/Mobil) and retired after years of service in the U.S. and overseas. His favorite hobbies included woodworking, hunting, working on his cars, and taking care of his horse and cows. Bill K. Gayden '63 passed away on August 17, 2022. In 1964, Bill graduated from UT and married the love of his life, Cynthia. He became an influential leader in the oil and gas industry through his work at Electronic Data Systems Corporation and was part of the rescue team that helped free two EDS employees from a heavily guarded Iranian prison. Bill was a mentor and friend to countless employees and colleagues, an active member and Deacon of Highland Park Presbyterian Church, and served his country as a U.S. Army Reservist in the 1960s. His hobbies included birding, studying Texas art, reading history, flying planes, and spending time with his family and grandchildren. Dr. R. Kent Stobaugh '64 passed away on November 4, 2022. Kent had a successful private practice in dentistry for 40 years. A leader in the profession, he served on numerous boards and enjoyed teaching at UT Dental School in Houston upon retiring from practice. The Texas Dental Association recently recognized him with the prestigious 50-Year Award. Kent was a frequent traveler, attended the Academy Awards, and enjoyed fishing, hunting, sailing, and golfing. Charles Nelson "Trey" Shields III '89 passed away on January 2, 2023, from complications due to his myotonic dystrophy, a horrible and degenerative disease that he endured for the last 25 years of his life. After graduating from UT, Trey earned his MBA in accounting from the University of Houston, leading a successful career in the oil and gas industry. Prior to health complications in his early 30s, he was athletic and active in many sports. He also enjoyed playing cards and chess with his sons and watching Longhorn football with friends and family. Doug Glass '71 was named to the board of directors of The University of Texas Foundation, one of the vehicles for contributions to the UT System institutions. He was also named to the board of MD Anderson Cancer Center, where he serves on the executive committee of the board of visitors. Doug is a retired attorney who practiced international energy law in Houston, Moscow, and London for more than 45 years. He lives in Naples, Fla. Email: glass4uk@aol.com In Memoriam Alumni Update
