When she was 18 and going through recruitment, Laurie kept hearing the importance of finding friends for life—and she found them in Pi Phi! She loved getting to know the wonderful women while living in the house, and today, she enjoys getting together with her pledge sisters, Debbie Sattler Cunningham '73, Terry Arnold McCarthy '73, Anna Stairs Mandala '73, and Carol Gordon Penniman '73. "We've been through so much together, and I am blessed to have them in my life," she shared. She also loves seeing members of the 1974 and 1975 initiate classes and is close with Amy Freiburger Tanaka '75. In 2007, when the late Mary McIllece Green Rooney '74 asked Laurie and Robin Greenway MacGillivray '74 to join the Chapter House Corporation (CHC), Laurie couldn't say no. "Working with my friends Mary and Robin was a big draw for me and I knew this would be a special experience," she said. At the time, the chapter house needed several renovations, and they needed to build excitement for the work, create ways to communicate with the chapter members, and raise funds—thus began Entre Nous! "rough Entre Nous, we have been able to create stories about our alumnae, collegians, generous donors, and unique history," Laurie shared. Laurie recalls interviewing the late Leslie Newquist '66, who served on CHC one year out of college, for the Spring 2012 issue. Leslie became CHC President and chaired the building committee for 667 W. 28th Street when Laurie was a collegian; she and the board bought the Myrick family home and land that the house now sits on, hired famous architect Paul Williams, FAIA, and furnished the new home. "It was truly a labor of love, and we all owe them our immense gratitude." Laurie also loved working on the Fall 2017 issue celebrating California Gamma's 100 th anniversary. She and Robin searched the archives and found amazing information and photos of Entre Nous, the local sorority that became our chapter. What started out as a mission to maintain the chapter house grew into so much more, and Laurie is grateful to have met alumnae like Susan Brownfield Beall '85 and Susan Schaffer '75 through the board. In addition to the newsletter, they've held fun events at the house, including two sleepovers and a reunion event for the member classes who were the first to live in the current chapter house. When she wasn't serving California Gamma, Laurie enjoyed a 25-year career in public relations, editorial, community affairs, corporate philanthropy, and event planning in Washington, D.C., and Los Angeles. Some of her favorite experiences include working in the press room at three Academy Awards, overseeing Rose Parade floats, putting on a luncheon for the Emperor and Empress of Japan, and starting the Heart of the City 5K run for Union Bank. She was also the company spokesperson and handled PR strategy for Transamerica in Los Angeles. Her interest in floral design was heightened by her event work, and today, she owns Le Lis Floral Design, which does floral design for weddings, events, and any occasion. Laurie has 27-year-old twin daughters; one works in healthcare and the other in beauty public relations. Her family has lived in Palos Verdes for 30 years. Laurie will be a Golden Arrow this year! You can connect with her at lauriebmaslauski@gmail.com and find her business on Instagram at @lelisfloraldesign.
