PAGE 3 F or both Robert DeChellis '89 and Gareth Stevens '88, the Phi Gamma Delta brotherhood began with a chance invitation during recruitment. It would grow from there into an instrumental part of both of their lives. "Phi Gamma Delta completely changed my trajectory in college and made me the person I am today," Gareth said. "It was and remains the definition of true friendship," Robert said. "I can't imagine how different my life would be had I not been part of Beta Kappa." As the recolonized Beta Kappa began planning for our new home, Robert and Gareth were both eager and humbled to accept the roles of co- chairmen for the Boulder FIJI: Not for College Days Alone! campaign— and to give back to Fiji in a way that will have a lasting impact. LIFELONG BENEFITS LIFELONG BENEFITS Both chairmen made many treasured Fiji memories and friendships in their college years, and the shared values prepared them for fulfilling lives as graduates. Robert recalls Beta Kappa was not considered one of the stronger CU chapters when he joined. "However, the membership was made of some of the highest quality people I had ever met. We all worked together to build a strong foundation and make it the great Fraternity it is today." In the two brothers' undergraduate years, Monday Chapter meetings always had high attendance along with a feeling of unity and fellowship. As graduate brothers, Gareth and Robert have traveled with a small group of brothers each year all over the world. Some of their favorite places have included Argentina, Alaska, Scotland, and Spain (where they even ran with the bulls in Pamplona). "And it all started when I decided to attend that first rush party," Gareth said. "I knew from that moment, I was going to be a better man." PRESERVING OUR BROTHERHOOD PRESERVING OUR BROTHERHOOD With the campaign in full swing, Gareth and Robert look forward to seeing the same momentum from alumni supporters that they've seen from Beta Kappa and its quality membership since returning to campus. Robert and his family live in Boulder, and Gareth and his wife are in the process of moving back to Colorado. Both brothers enjoy the great outdoors and time spent with their families. United in Fiji Brotherhood United in Fiji Brotherhood Why Our Campaign Co-Chairmen Believe in Beta Kappa "The response has been very positive so far," Gareth said of early campaign work. "It's a rewarding experience to connect with brothers that I haven't spoken to in decades." "It's amazing to witness the leadership that has come forth to make this happen," Robert said. "The incredible commitment and perseverance remind me of when I was an undergraduate." "Having broad graduate participation right now is critical to maintain our Chapter's momentum and keep attracting high-quality brothers," Robert said. "In my 37-plus years as a Fiji, I've never witnessed this much energy and support for the Chapter," Gareth said. "There hasn't been a more exciting time to be active and engaged with Beta Kappa!" Added Robert: "The connections and excitement surrounding Beta Kappa right now are palpable!"
