After meeting the Brothers in the house, I quickly realized everyone here had the same goals and aspirations I have and I had found my new home." –Riley Jordan '22 "I immediately felt a connection with the Brothers in the house. I knew this was the group of guys I wanted to spend the next four years with." –Christian Ladner '22 "I realized this group of Brothers could help me better myself and help me reach for success. The guys here are amazing and will be lifelong friends I will never forget." –Branan Rountree '22 WHY THEY JOINED DELTA CHI F raternity life forges lifelong bonds, and it's never too late to start new traditions. Eight Brothers at Bama in the early '70s met for lunch in January 2019 in Birmingham. The group became known as the "Old Goats Lunch Bunch" and consists of guys in pledge years ranging from 1967-74, most of whom are retired or semi-retired. Twelve guys attended the second lunch, and their largest gathering was 27 last August. (When COVID locked the world down, the "Old Goats" were still able to connect on Zoom a couple of times.) The group convened in January 2023 for the 10th time for fellowship and food with two first-timers from the late '60s on the guest list. "Camaraderie among Brothers is not only social, but networking has helped connect us with professional services, and some with their careers," said 1972 pledge Brian Crawford, who helped organize the group. Brian is amazed at the distance some have traveled to visit and enjoy lunch with their classmates. "Thirty-nine Brothers have attended at least one lunch since January 2019, and only 12 live in Jefferson and Shelby Counties (Birmingham). Others come from Cullman, Florence, Gulf Shores, Guntersville, Huntsville, Lake Martin, Montgomery, Oneonta, Springville, Tuscaloosa and Wedowee. Six have traveled from out of state, with two of them being 'regular' attendees. Brothers have flown in from New Orleans and driven down from Memphis, Franklin and Knoxville, Tennessee and North Carolina. Another from Toms River, New Jersey, joined us last September while visiting family here. We come to maintain bonds with pledge and other Brothers with whom we attended class, watched TV, played cards, attended ball games— and yes, we partied some!" Thank you, Old Goats, for sharing your story! We, too, hope Delta Chi Brothers will continue to unite and promote the friendship that brought them together as young men.
