The A Publication of Delta Upsilon at the University of Missouri • Spring 2023 Duck call P roviding oversight and support to Fraternity chapters can be a daunting task. We are indeed fortunate to have several key support groups, including our local advisory and alumni boards, the university's Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life, and our international Fraternity staff. Last year, a group of Fraternity alumni leaders at Mizzou established a new organization called Mizzou Greek Alliance Inc. (MGA). Its fundamental goal is to enhance and support the Fraternity experience at Mizzou. Membership is open to any University of Missouri Fraternity. Currently, MGA has 16 member organizations, including Delta Upsilon. This represents about 60% of the Fraternity membership base and includes most of the large organizations. MGA's stated mission is to strengthen the level of support of Fraternities and enhance the Fraternity experience at the University of Missouri. Its key initiatives include: Advocacy: Build strong working relationships with top university administrators and promote effective due process and accountability standards for Fraternities. Improve the Experience: Share "best practices" within the Fraternity community, including educational providers, advisor organizations, students, alumni, and parents. Inter-Fraternity Council Outreach: Provide perspectives, ideas, and assistance to help and support IFC officers and directors. Education and Training: In conjunction with the OFSL, develop and present educational programs for undergraduate Fraternity members, chapter officers, and alumni advisors, with emphasis on hazing prevention, alcohol/substance abuse, and sexual assault. Promotion of Diversity: Partner with Mizzou's vice chancellor for diversity and inclusion to create opportunities for inclusion and membership in the Mizzou Greek system for underrepresented segments of the student body. Before joining this organization, I participated in several board calls and events. I was impressed with the leadership of the group and have already seen several tangible results. With university and national fraternal organizations struggling with staff retention and the increased demands placed on our local alumni volunteers, I am hopeful that MGA can help fill the gap.
