THE MU MUSE SIGMA CHI West Virginia P.O. Box 442100 Lawrence, KS 66044-2100 Address Service Requested Chapter Eternal "As a friend, as a brother among us, and as a man of affairs, we have known him as loyal and devoted to the high ideals of The White Cross which we wear." –Excerpt from The White Rose Ceremony Len McCutcheon '50 April 2020 Lincolnton, N.C. To notify Mu Mu Chapter of a brother's passing, please send an obituary notice or other written confirmation to mumuhousecorp@gmail.com or: P.O. Box 4306 Morgantown, WV 26504-4306 Why did you pledge Sigma Chi? I was looking for something more than just a group of friends. I have never really had a brother, so the notion of not only having a brother, but also being a brother, was intriguing. I instantly felt at home during my first visit. The brothers were noticeably welcoming and accepting. It was apparent that there was a lot more going on than partying. I could see the pride that guys took in being a Mu Mu Sigma Chi. What Were your reaSonS for running for the magiSter/pledge trainer poSition? I always have felt that I have a knack for rallying a group to accomplish an end goal, so I felt that this position was right up my alley. My own Magister had a lasting impact on me; I, too, wanted to leave a "mark" on the young men who walk through our doors. There is an immense amount of responsibility and potential risk that the position entails. I felt that I had my head on straight enough to do it and contribute to the future of the chapter. I wanted to start giving back. What Were your perSonal highlightS of leading a pledge ClaSS through the program? It is such a "rush" to watch a pledge class come together. These new brothers exponentially grew as a unit and as individuals. They not only became men, but also leaders of men, as Sigma Chi brothers hold one another accountable to. I can confidently say that each one of them will be an asset to our fraternity. Seeing them develop into not just friends, but brothers, was a humbling experience. What did you learn about yourSelf during the SemeSter? Holding this position helped me develop leadership skills; I now see myself as more driven than before. It also taught me the importance of being a chapter leader. I feel as if some positions are taken for granted until one holds that position—now I see that there is a lot more than what the job description details. Every position matters. This experience has motivated me to do more. you had Some alumni help With the aCtual initiation. Can you Share the importanCe of that? Thanks to alumni participation, this fall initiation was EX-cellent! Dennis Bonnstetter '79, Harry Grandon '74, Dave Barnett '83, Jimmy Frey '19, Mark Greskevitch '82, Mat Grimshaw '84, and Rader Dod '86 all played huge parts in its success. It evidenced an ever-growing bond with our alumni brothers. Our Sigma Chi alumni engagement is what sets us apart from others. We hope to continue encouraging alumni participation in our ceremonies of initiation for the foreseeable future. What iS your aSSeSSment of the health and viability of mu mu? Mu Mu Chapter is the strongest it has been in a very long time. We are seeking to "up" our philanthropic efforts with the end goal of obtaining the Peterson Award. Our GPA is well above 3.0 and increasing each semester. We have a lot of plans to be the best version of what a Sigma Chi chapter should be. It is of the utmost importance to continually improve as a brotherhood, which is also essential in this capital campaign process. anything elSe you Would like to add for our alumni brotherS? Thank you for the opportunity to be interviewed. It is an honor to share my thoughts. Again, we could not be in the position we are in without our alumni. Your support will never go unnoticed. As we celebrated 127 years this past June, we saw firsthand how awesome it is to be a part of Mu Mu and not take anything for granted. Having our alumni brothers take the time to help us out after all these years is sincerely appreciated. Lucas is a sport management major from Towson, Maryland.
