2 ALPHA TAU OMEGA T he fall 2022 semester might go down as one of the busiest semesters in recent memory for the men of Gamma Rho. With new additions to the House, many philanthropy events, and a semester full of academics, the Taus really had their hands full. Recruitment The men of ATΩ started the fall semester by recruiting 40 new members to our brotherhood. Recruitment Chairman Andrew Herweck '20 made the fall class one of the most diverse by recruiting from St. Louis, Kansas City, Chicago, Columbia, and even Minnesota! We are thrilled to welcome these new members into our brotherhood this January. Renovations One of the most exciting occurrences this fall was the renovation of the backyard of our 909 Richmond Chapter House. At the start of the semester, most members realized that the backyard had unrealized potential. Brother Michael Shanahan III '20 and his father, Mike Shanahan Jr., answered the call and gifted the men of Gamma Rho a totally renovated backyard. Together with the help of project manager Ben Becker '18 and Luke Draily Construction, the Shanahans were able to redesign and extend the basketball court as well as install a concrete fire pit for all to enjoy. Brother Shanahan made sure to dedicate the new basketball court to our late brother, Drew King '18, in remembrance of his impact on the Gamma Rho Chapter. Everyone here at the Gamma Rho Chapter is beyond thankful for the contributions of both Mike Shanahan Jr. and Michael Shanahan III. Events This past fall, we also hosted the annual Drew King Invitational Golf Tournament. This tournament was started by former President Zach Hiboldt '19 and former Vice President Tommy Geders '19 to remember Brother King and the sport he loved. This year, the men of ATΩ were forced to stop early due to constant thunderstorms. The event will be held this spring, where incumbents Tommy Geders '19 and Dawson Owen '19 will defend their trophy. Philanthropy For the second-straight year, the Taus participated in a week of philanthropy during this year's Homecoming. Organized by Historian Tyler Haas '20 and Philanthropy Chairman Stephen Brooks '21, the 2022 new member class pulled their weight during the week of philanthropy by canning around Columbia, selling hotdogs, being dunked in a dunk tank, and even getting pied in the face in exchange for donations! The brothers of ATΩ were able to raise $13,040 for Coyote Hill, a charity that focuses on boys growing up in abusive households. Future Excitement Not only did we have a great fall semester, but we are excited for the spring semester as well. We plan on recruiting more new members for the spring and are excited for our Mom's Weekend on April 21. As a Chapter, we are looking forward to the memories the remainder of the school year has to offer and keeping the traditions of ATΩ alive. Fraternally, Carson Schieber '20 Past Chapter President EXPANDING THE BROTHERHOOD Actives Excel on and off Campus New members sell hotdogs and chips on Richmond Avenue to raise money for Coyote Hill Christian Children's Home during Homecoming week. Brothers take a tour through downtown Nashville during formal.
