2 UNIVERSITY OF NORTH DAKOTA H ello all! My name is James Thompson and I serve as Worthy Master for Delta Nu—the chapter you all know, love, and respect. I am a junior and plan to take the AVIATE pathway program on campus up through United Airlines, possibly switching to FedEx for the rest of my career. But enough about me, you all want to hear about the chapter! MEMBERSHIP The current chapter size stands at 25 members. This includes 12 active members, 12 new members from fall recruitment, and one new member from spring who has recently come back from deployment in Iraq. Even after an amazing turnout for recruitment this year, we are still expecting a few more new members by summer. CAMPUS LIFE We held the second-highest fraternity GPA with a 3.23. We are also planning more social events with other Greek chapters to reaffirm the somewhat lost ties from years past. Our chapter has also been working to be more involved by attending every event we can. BOARD At the time of writing, we are communicating with the new Board of Trustees headed by Kevin Riley '79. Kevin and I are working to bring the board and chapter together to establish a strong and orderly relationship for years to come. THANK YOU, ALUMNI I want to finish off this article by thanking all of you for making this chapter what it is today. Every alumnus, no matter how involved, has passed on the brotherhood of this chapter to all succeeding generations. A very special thank-you to all the alumni who donated to build this beautiful new house; it would not have been possible without you. All the support you give us is incredible, and we, as the active members of Delta Nu, strive to make you proud. Thank you all. Fraternally, James Thompson Worthy Master Ser ving Others In Hawaii, Mark joined the JROTC, then later joined the ROTC program at UND, knowing he would have to put his postgraduate job search on hold. "I had a lengthy history of family members who previously served, so I chose to, at least, do my duty." During his 11 years in the military, which included the ND Army National Guard and Reserves, he recalls it as a rewarding experience and honor. Mark was reinvolved with Delta Nu a few years after returning from the military, serving as chapter advisor and later as alumni treasurer. In 2021, he helped organize the events and activities during Homecoming to collectively celebrate an all-active reunion, Delta Nu's 100th anniversary, and the dedication of the newly constructed house. A Bright Future "My impression of the current active chapter is encouraging," Mark shared. "It's a smaller group than our days in the late '60s/early '70s, but they seem to preserve the positive traditions of Delta Nu." Mark and his wife, Sandy Jacobson, an Alpha Phi and Grand Forks native, raised one daughter, Maile, in Grand Forks. She graduated from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. She now resides in Blaine, Minnesota, with her husband and three children. "As we did at the house in college, I still enjoy playing music of old tunes, such as piano, ukulele, guitar," Mark said. "I'm currently involved with the music ministry at Sharon Lutheran Church, playing the bass guitar." You can connect with Mark at mvlrios1@gmail.com.
