e Washington Alpha Delt 2 W ashington Chapter has entered a time of revitalization, brotherhood, and abundant opportunity. Since my Chapter update from the spring, our fraternity has seen innumerable tangible and cultural accomplishments that have propelled us forward despite the challenges faced during the COVID-19 pandemic. CHAPTER MEETING Upon moving into the Temple in spring, our first Chapter meeting in the building gave us a moment to reflect on the arduous months resulting from a continuing pandemic, various construction delays, and the operational pains of living in a significantly larger house. Although this meeting began with a negative discussion and a regression-based mindset, we brought innovative solutions to the conversation. With a whiteboard and Expo marker, a Socratic seminar transpired, addressing each facet of our Chapter needing immediate attention. From there, we drafted specific and attainable goals with actionable items to achieve those goals. ALUMNI INVOLVEMENT Despite this revived energy, we needed our greatest asset, the Alumni. For those unaware of our new guest speaker room, the Alumni ensured a meeting space, named Logos Hall, was constructed to create a dedicated space for scholarly and educational presentations. Starting this fall, we opened our doors to host presentations on various topics from Alumni, UW faculty, and other industry professionals to educate our Chapter and the greater Greek community. Alpha Delt alumnus Mike Seely '96 encouraged his friend Pat Chester to speak to members in Logos Hall, discussing the dangers of sports betting. The activity has been legal in Washington for over a year, and educating a younger demographic is vital. Mike introduced himself to the group, touching on his time as an Alpha Delt, then passed it off to Pat, who described the 10-year period in which he battled an addiction to sports betting that derailed his life. The popular trend has permeated college campuses, and his presentation was essential as parents rarely discuss the topic. Important life lessons from our Alumni continue to roll in as we listen with open ears to others' experiences. Joe Chocolate's co-founder, Peter Kechemet '16, has returned to UW to obtain his master's degree in accounting and is frequently on the UW campus. I called him over the summer to request his presence to speak to members about his entrepreneurial endeavors and the path leading him to that career. As Joe Chocolate is a favored company name for business professors to use in midterms and final exams, awareness of its ties to ADP is known across the Greek system and University. Peter agreed to speak and gave a presentation on his career trajectory in entrepreneurship. Although risky and strenuous, Peter discussed his love of the field and has since had one-on- one coffee chats with a few undergraduates interested in starting their own businesses. SETTING GOALS Past President Brooks Lierle '22 gave me profound advice as I entered my term. He said, "When ending your term as a leader, it will be difficult to discern the tangible impact you may have had. Those large leaps and the accomplishments will be revealed in the years following. Always keep your head up and stay motivated to create success for Chapter presidents who follow." The advice Brooks passed altered the course of my presidency—I decided to center my actions on overarching objectives that would take our fraternity to the top. Before summer term, the Chapter sat down and revisited goals set in January to correct our approach where necessary, better aligning with becoming the best fraternity in the country. With the momentum of previous presidents and the Chapter's consistent goal setting, ADP has seen increments of success over these past six months. CHAPTER ACCOLADES Across 24 active fraternities at UW, the Alpha Delts conquered the ceremony, taking home three of seven Greek Awards: Excellence in Academia and Programming, Excellence in Public Relations, and Greatest Innovation in Philanthropy. In early August, Vice President Jack Murphy '23 and I traveled to Philadelphia for the annual convention, where we once again proved the Chapter's success. Despite our pride in receiving two distinct awards, Excellence in Alumni Relations and Excellence in Finance, the Chapter has grown a revived hunger to take home the E.O. Blackman Award in 2023. As I conclude my term and pass the reigns to Nick Utgard '25, I become increasingly excited to watch from the sidelines as Brother Utgard aspires to inspire our fraternity. Local and distant Alumni, I encourage you to tour our state-of-the-art Chapter House. Please contact Nick or I for a tour. The house is just as much yours as ours, and we welcome you to share our appreciation for the Temple. Thank you for all your dedicated support and guidance as we advance toward the most influential time in our Chapter's history. All the best, and we hope to see you soon.
