November 20-26, 2022 What's up! 9 Rosie Floyd Bella Vista Mediums: Acrylics, pastels, and pen & ink What inspired you to create art? "I have always enjoyed drawing as a young child and later learned to use the various mediums. It is always amazing to me to see the progress of a painting or art piece, to see it later and say, 'Hey! I did that!'" Floyd's 6x6 paintings: "Submerged": "The fall leaves under water always interest me. Moving here recently from Central Texas, there is SO MUCH fall foli- age here in Arkansas. Watching the leaves swirl and float as they glisten under the water is rather mesmerizing to me." "Out in the Field": "I love all the old barns here in Arkansas as they remind me of my grand- parents' huge barn, and of the small barn on my parents' farm in Yoakum, Texas. … The fun we had on that farm will always be part of my memories. So I have a certain affection for old barns." "Mill's Creek": "Dave and I take frequent road trips and on the way back home we discovered Mill's Creek in one of the Arkansas parks. I enjoyed the view and decided to paint it. It worked perfectly for the 6x6 size canvas." Barton Fogleman Bella Vista Mediums: Oils, acrylics, wood What inspired you to create art? "A desire to create or portray beautiful things — scenes, people, objects, and sometimes our imagination." Fogleman's 6x6 paintings: "Water Lotus Blossom," oils on canvas, was inspired by a blossom in a fountain pool at a business near Gateway and finished in 2020. "Autumn Maple Glory," acrylics on canvas, was inspired by my neighbor's gorgeous hard maple this fall. And "Old Sickle-Bar at Sunrise," acrylics on canvas, was inspired by a photo posted on Facebook's Backroads of Arkan- sas by Larry Delores Wells and painted with permission. Gerald "Scout" Hatley Bella Vista Medium: Transparent watercolors What inspired you to create art? "I began drawing in childhood, so I've been into visual interpre- tation all my life. Art became a central force for me throughout all my schooling, and I devel- oped a love for the magic of truly seeing the myriad of color at play all around us in nature. I found a means with which I could re-cre- ate that vision by manipulating the intricacies of watercolors in college." Hatley's 6x6 paintings: "The Bucket," "Windmill" and "Sea Shell." "Being a watercolorist creates a unique challenge for my skills on a canvas," Hatley says. "It is a challenge and an area of growth for me. My first attempt was last year's 6x6 show and auction. There are still inherent difficulties working with a transparent water media, but it can be done! These pieces are both fun and challenging." Kathleen Siegfried Bella Vista Mediums: Acrylic on canvas and board. What inspired you to create art? "I have always enjoyed art and used it frequently when teaching literature and writing. Several years ago in New Jersey I was lucky enough to study with three different watercolor artists. I have always been inspired by Georgia O'Keeffe. Last month I spent a glorious week at her Ghost Ranch in Abiquiu, N.M., working on painting and writ- ing." Siegfried's 6x6 paintings: "All three of my 6x6 pieces were inspired by my recent trip to New Mexico. One piece is a scene of red and purple moun- tains flanked by yellow cotton- wood trees. This was the view from my room at the ranch. The two abstract pieces reflect the vibrant colors I saw throughout New Mexico. I used watercolor on aquaboard for all the pieces, which I then glued onto the canvases. I used Posca paint pens to enhance the designs."
