KEYping Up with Kappa 2 T he past several months have been nothing short of outstanding for Gamma Zeta. Recruitment and Work Week Our members spent the first few weeks of August preparing for recruitment and getting ready to welcome our new member class. Prior to recruitment, we hosted a Work Week, bonding through fun projects and activities in the chapter house. Each member arrived in Tucson with a smile on their face, excited for the weeks to come. Bid Day Thanks to our recruitment team—Janelle Kuczek '19, Tyson Chapman '19, and Katie West '19—recruitment was a huge success for our chapter. During Set 2, we presented our national philanthropy to the PNMs and explained why mental health is so important to our chapter. Set 3 was focused on what makes our sisterhood so special. September 5, the day we had been waiting for, finally arrived. Bid Day is one of our chapter's favorite events, as we get to welcome new members with open arms and add more outstanding women to our chapter. Formal Dinner and Initiation Shortly after recruitment, we were thrilled to host our first formal chapter dinner since the pandemic began. Women were excited to dress up and enjoy an elaborate dinner together as a chapter. Having events in person again is something that none of our members take for granted. In fact, we were so fortunate to host our first complete, in-person Initiation again in November. Academics Our chapter has also done well in the classroom with a GPA of 3.46. To motivate and encourage our members in their studies, VP of Academics Ashlyn Hegar '20 conducts weekly study parties at the chapter house. Members enjoy spending time together while simultaneously catching up on their schoolwork. Looking Ahead Gamma Zeta Chapter has jumped back in for the fall semester with enthusiasm and optimism. We value our ability to push each other to be the best versions of ourselves, placing a high priority on academics, philanthropy, extracurriculars, and more. Between upcoming sisterhood events, football game days, and big/ little reveal, our chapter could not be more excited for what's to come. Alexa Heemsbergen '20, Savannah Smith '20, and Ashlyn Hegar '20 get ready to share our philanthropy with PNMs at Set 2 of recruitment. Our Gamma Zeta seniors are all smiles for Set 3 of recruitment! STRONG GENERATIONS Lynn has worked with generations of young women closely and can attest to their abilities to keep the chapter traditions and purpose at the forefront while also moving into the future. "These women have helped me to stay involved, to understand and accept new and different ways of doing things, and to appreciate all the gifts Kappa underpinnings have provided to all the women who have walked the halls of Kappa over the last 150 years," Lynn shared. Volunteering allows Lynn to connect with women both older and younger, those who were not in school with her, or even those from a different chapter. The Tucson Alumnae Association has always been a big part of Lynn's Kappa experience, and she is grateful for the good friends and sisters she's made. "I have loved working with the new generations of Kappas over the years. I am always shocked and pleased to see how capable, confident, and committed the young women are today. It gives me great hope for the future." A NEW ERA Lynn and her husband, George, celebrated 52 years of marriage. Together, they have two daughters and nine grandchildren. "I like to say I got a good return on my investment—my youngest daughter, Cory, was a Kappa at Bucknell." Lynn is active in her free time, from swimming to golfing to serving as chairman of the Kappa Book Club in Tucson. "I love these women and spending time with them," Lynn shared. "Plus, I saw several sisters from my pledge class who attended the Centennial Celebration in 2020; it was wonderful. Hopefully, my class will gather in 2024 to celebrate 55 years of sisterhood!"
