She was the daughter of the late Arthur & Nora Harris. She was born & raised in the Green Hill Community. Edith graduated from RS Central, & King's College. Edith was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church & she later attended Mountain Creek Baptist Church. She worked for over 30 years as a secre- tary for the Rutherford County School System where she retired. In addition to her par- ents, Edith was preceded in death by one son Mayford Allen Atchley, & one brother William Arthur "Butch" Harris. Edith is survived by her husband of 58 years, Mayford Lee Atchley Sr., daughter April Atchley Cosner (Mike), son Mayford Lee Atchley Jr. (Claudia), sisters Kathy Tuttle, Brenda Crook, & Nancy Medford, 2 grandchildren. The funeral service was held at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church November 6, with Rev. Randy Darley offi- ciating. Barbara Dotson Barbara Ann Newton Dotson, 78, of Mill Spring, passed away November 4, 2022. A native of Ninety Six, SC, she was the daughter of the late Grady Christopher & Agnes Cantrell Newton & was preceded in death by broth- ers Alfred & Homer Newton. Barbara worked at Broyhill Furniture & was a member of Cane Creek Missionary Baptist Church. Left to cherish her memories are her husband Roger Dotson; son, Wayman Dotson (Leslie); daughter, Cheryl Haynes (William); brothers, Stanley Newton and Christopher Newton; sisters Reba Hudgins, Jeanette Byrd; 2 grandchildren, 1 great- grandchild. She was the daughter of the late Luke Spooner and Stella Spooner. In addition to her par- ents she was preceded in death by a sister Brenda Spooner and brothers Hartley Spooner, Kenny Spooner and James Spooner. She was a native of Blountstown, FL. Andra was a member of Seeds for Harvest Church. Survivors include daughter Stella Williams and Raymond Platt, son David Langford and wife Barbara, sister Chloe Bamburg and husband Charles, brother Lawrence Spooner and wife Barbara, two step-daughters Jackie Hoopes, Yolanda Stoker and husband John, two granddaughters, twelve grandchildren, twenty two great-grandchildren. Jovita Lozano Arrieta Jovita Lozano Arrieta, age 63, of Forest City, passed away Thursday, November 3, 2022. Jovita was born February 14, 1959 in Pololcingo, Mexico to the late Rutilo Lozano and Omensima Barcenas. She was a homemaker. Jovita was a parishioner of the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church. In addition to her par- ents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Constantino Arrieta-Salgado and six brothers and sisters. Left to cherish fond memories are her children, Beatriz Arrieta-Roman of Forest City, Julio Arrieta of Pololcingo, Mexico; Maria Arrieta-Hernandez (Efrain) of Forest City and Alejandra Arrieta of Forest City and three brothers and sisters, ten grandchildren. Ricky "30W" Lancaster Ricky "30W" Lancaster, age 68, of Forest City, passed away Friday, November 4, 2022. Ricky was born October 29, 1954 in Rutherford County to the late Frank William Lancaster and Hazel Louise Sisk Lancaster. He was a graduate of R.S. Central High School. He worked at Mastercraft and National Textiles and was the owner and operator of Lancaster Landscaping. Ricky attended the Church of the Brethren. In addition to his par- ents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Caleb Lancaster. Survivors include a son, Spencer Adam Lancaster of Morganton; brother, Mike Hugh Lancaster (Deborah); two great-grandsons, a spe- cial "son" Kirk Biddix and a number of nieces and neph- ews. The induction ceremony was at The Foundation Performing Arts and Conference Center on Tuesday, Nov. 1. Isothermal students were inducted along with juniors and seniors from Rutherford County Schools and Polk County Schools. The 2022-23 Isothermal NTHS offi cers are President Emily Chiqui-Conder, Vice President Katelynn Brooks, Secretary Tabitha Lucas, and Treasurer Isabella Cesante. Special guests in attendance from NTHS Headquarters included Chief Operating Offi cer Kate Allen. The guests were welcomed by Dr. Margaret Annunziata, Isothermal president. The event was emceed by Aaron Greene, superintendent of Polk County Schools. Lindsey Edwards, the NTHS advisor at Polk County High School took part in the program, as did Charlie Freeman, CTE director at Rutherford County Schools. NTHS helps schools recognize students for their achievement in career and technical education. The National Technical Honor Society currently serves approximately 100,000 active members and nearly a million members since its inception in 1984. Awarding more than $2 million in scholarships to date, NTHS honors the achievements of top CTE students, provides scholarships to encourage the pursuit of higher education, and cultivates excellence in today's highly competitive, skilled workforce. Students inducted into the National Technical Honor Society DSS announces heating crisis program Rutherford County Department of Social Services is accepting applications for the Crisis Intervention Program (CIP). The (CIP) assists individuals and families experiencing a heating or cooling related crisis. A household is in a crisis if it is currently experiencing or is in danger of experiencing a life-threatening or health-related emergency and suffi cient, timely, and appropriate assistance is not available from any other source. Life-threatening is defi ned as a household which has no heating or cooling source, or has a disconnect, fi nal, or past due notice for their primary heating or cooling service and the health or well-being of a household member would be in danger if the heating or cooling crisis was not alleviated. Each household should be evaluated on a case- by-case basis to determine if there is a heating or cooling crisis. How to Apply for CIP: Call DSS at 828-287-1248 and request an application be taken over the phone with a telephonic signature (you may have to leave a message); Complete the online application, print, and sign the application, then Email the SIGNED application to: Energy@ rutherfordcountync.gov.
