A
s you read in the cover article, Missouri Alpha has officially been
rechartered!
Along with this great news, our chapter has also earned our SigEp
Learning Community accreditation, which is given only to the most
academically impressive SigEp chapters across the country. These
milestones now make us eligible for a Buchanan Cup—celebrating the
overall elite-level chapters—which we are excited to pursue (and win) at
the Grand Chapter Conclave in San Antonio next summer.
Manpower is a critical component to a chapter's health, and ours has
grown to 73 outstanding men, with a freshman class of 24 and counting.
This summer's recruitment was very successful thanks to numerous
events in the St. Louis and Kansas City areas, such as Cardinals and
Sporting KC games, Topgolf, skeet shooting, and more. While we
applaud our summer results, recruitment continues year-round! If you
know any students currently at or planning to attend Mizzou that would
make great SigEps, please reach out to VP of Recruitment Jayden Reyes
'24 at (816) 695-6470 or reyesjayden01@gmail.com.
As we begin a new semester, Missouri Alpha continues to keep
academics a priority. We posted a 3.49 GPA last spring, second among
all fraternities (just behind Phi Kap with a 3.55). Our brothers understand
the importance of a quality education and are eager to take back our top
spot again. Our planned first-place finish this fall will give us six of seven
semesters in that position.
Outside the classroom, SigEp is busy with Homecoming! We are paired
with Sigma Tau Gamma, Phi Kappa Theta, and Sigma Kappa, and we
have been painting and pomping for several weeks. This has been a great
brotherhood and cross-campus interaction.
Additionally, our brothers come out to support our flag football and sand
volleyball teams every week. We also performed quite well in KKG's
fundraising golf scramble this fall. Intramurals, and sports in general,
represent one important component of SigEp's Balanced Man philosophy,
and our success in this area continues to grow with our chapter.
Finally, I want to give special recognition to an alumnus who has taken
a proactive approach to the chapter's success and growth. This summer,
Vern Smith '73 provided Cardinals tickets for six games, funded
much of our Topgolf event, and took a group of brothers and potential
new brothers skeet shooting at Strathalbyn Farms. Furthermore, Vern
organized and hosted two float trips at his cabin for our brothers to
enjoy. Vern: Missouri Alpha and I thank you for your commitment to and
support of our chapter.
As always, it's a great day to be a SigEp!
