SigEp A PUBLICATION FOR ALUMNI OF MISSOURI ALPHA t SIGMA PHI EPSILON FALL 2022 Tiger Heart W e've been reporting here for some three years that Missouri Alpha is back. Well, on August 21, it became official. Mike Wolbert, NW Missouri '94, member of SigEp's National Board of Directors, paid a surprise visit to the first chapter meeting of the school year. Alongside Greg Pierson '23, our own undergraduate member of that board, Mike unveiled our charter along with the announcement that Missouri Alpha is officially back in business. How does it feel to achieve such a goal after over three years of relentless effort? Look at the smiles in the photo, or better yet, watch the video of the chapter exploding in applause as the charter was unveiled at tinyurl.com/MOAlphaCharterReel. What's it take to earn your charter back? Hard work and demonstrated results: • Our "colony," as a pre-chartered chapter is known, led all fraternities in grades for five of the last six semesters. • Our membership continues to climb each semester, now at 73 of the sharpest undergraduates on the Mizzou campus. • Strong alumni support continues, with our board, mentors, and financial supporters among the top for SigEp nationally. • Missouri Alpha has redefined "fraternity" at Mizzou. Our substance- free facility and hazing-free culture aren't holding us back; they're giving us the ultimate sales pitch. I received this email from the mother of new member Sawyer Jackson '26: "My son is a new freshman and SigEp brother! He has had the best beginning to college, largely due to all the SigEp brothers who have welcomed him, helped him connect, and have already motivated him to be a high achiever on campus! His Dad and I were skeptical about 'frat life' but SigEp has proven to be a great experience for him." As I wrote in our previous issue, we need to keep "fueling the rocket ship" that is Missouri Alpha. A key focus area for us right now is building a pool of alumni mentors—brothers who will work with an undergraduate as he prepares to enter the post-Mizzou world. Each of you can make a profound impact on one of our young brothers with just a small commitment of time and effort. We are seeking a mentor for each of our undergraduate members. Plan on an informal monthly call to discuss school, graduation, interviewing, and preparing for the "next steps." Your experience is priceless to these brothers. Interested? Please take one minute to fill out our professional mentor interest form. You can find the form at the following link: tinyurl.com/MOAlphaMentors The program will be fully in place by the spring semester, and we need a few dozen mentors to get us there. Thank you to the 20 of you who have already contacted us! Finally, a special shoutout to Ted Corless '89 for conceiving and executing a fabulous alumni get-together the night before the Georgia game. Ted generously matched the first $10,000 in donations from the weekend. See page 2 for highlights from a great weekend in Columbia.
