BEARTRACKS Missouri Gamma Chapter Alumni Newsletter S I G M A P H I E P S I L O N Fall 2022 O n September 17, 2022, over 100 alumni returned to Missouri Gamma for its 75th Anniversary Celebration. Counting the undergraduates and guests, over 200 people enjoyed a full day of SigEp brotherhood and activities. Missouri Gamma brothers from all decades and corners of the U.S. (Reno, Philadelphia, Orlando, Houston) attended the event. Some alumni started in the Ozarks on Thursday with many arriving on Friday, culminating on Saturday. Support from the Chapter undergraduates was awesome. Chapter President Mike Howard '23 addressed the crowd with an update on life as a SigEp in 2022. Returning alumni and their guests took a tour of the Chapter House, watched a special Chapter history video, and enjoyed a delicious barbecue pig catered by Brother Craig Basler '85 of Dalies Smokehouse BBQ. Notable guests included SigEp CEO Brian Warren, Virginia '04, SigEp Grand President Billy Maddalon, North Carolina State '90, District Governor Mike Duggan, Missouri State '74, and Regional Director Johnny Sanchez, Wichita State '22. The weather was perfect, and the tent on the north lawn provided a comfortable place for the reunion of brothers. Friendships were renewed as the years apart melted away. Tall tales of the past dominated the conversation. That evening, after a campus bus ride (narrated by Mike Kearney '61) and arrival at MST Hasselmann Alumni House, a crowd of more than 130 toasted SigEp. AVC President Dave Denner '76 spoke to the happy crowd and reviewed the AVC goals of creating a larger endowment for scholarships, taking care of the Chapter facilities, providing mentorship to the undergraduates, and improving alumni communications. Dave then introduced keynote speaker MST Chancellor Mo Dehghani, who outlined the aggressive growth initiatives for the $300 million Kummer donation made to MST in 2020. Following the Chancellor, Grand President Billy Maddalon gave an inspiring talk about the essence of SigEp, the need for young men to be part of something as they mature into adulthood, and our cardinal principals of Virtue, Diligence, and Brotherly Love. Billy challenged us to keep the spirit of 1901 first and foremost in our efforts at MO Gamma. He was very complimentary of the undergraduates' achievements. Lastly, Brother John O'Hara '76 gave a wonderful invocation before the buffet dinner. Myron Grubaugh '78 summed up the event perfectly when he wrote, "Thank you to everyone involved in putting together a weekend we won't forget. Missouri Gamma, in our hearts and minds forever." Cheers to 75 Years! A Great Day for Missouri Gamma "It was a great day for MO Gamma." –Jerry Thomure '74 "I have nothing but great things to report about the Chapter." –Johnny Sanchez, Florida International '22, Regional Director "Saturday was a spectacular event, planned and executed so successfully." –Phil Owens '72 "The 75th Founders Day was awesome!" –Dave Naeger '80 "I loved every second of our visit." –Brian Warren, Virginia '04, CEO, Sigma Phi Epsilon "It was absolutely fantastic." –Dave Denner '76 "It was a pleasure to see the fraternity in such great shape." –Tom Cadwell '67 "This was truly a great event which will remain in my memory for the rest of my days." –Randy Gault '73 "Great event!" –Mike Duggan, Missouri State '74, District Governor Left: At the Chapter House (from left), Tom Bach '79 watches on as Myron Grubaugh '78 points something out to Larry Wuerz '78 and Jim Hoolehan '80.
