A
major initiative of SigEp National is to
engage alumni in mentoring. Mentoring is an
effective and friendly way to transfer knowledge
to younger brothers, Chapter officers, and
undergraduates on a wide spectrum of subjects.
The Alumni Volunteer Corporation is seeking
alumni assistance for the MO Gamma
Mentoring Program. Our initial effort is to
engage alumni for a commitment to mentoring
Chapter officers and undergraduates. The
mentoring process is geared to providing advice
and experienced-based perspectives on any
challenges and questions the young men encounter.
We are actively seeking mentors for Chapter
officer positions of President, VP Programming,
VP Recruitment, VP Communications, VP Risk
Management, Chaplain, Scholarship, Steward,
and Secretary.
In addition to Chapter operations, AVC is seeking
mentors for career path guidance, including:
• Chemical engineering mentor for
ChemE undergraduates
• Medical field mentor for those interested in
pursuing a medical career
• Business mentor for those seeking MBAs
after their engineering degree
If you are interested in becoming a mentor,
please contact AVC Mentoring Chairman
Trevor Thornton '18 at (636) 284-8888 or
tnthornton96@gmail.com.
A
t the AVC meeting in August 2022,
Missouri Gamma awarded $8,000
to eight deserving undergraduates. The
funds for these awards come from the MO
Gamma and Hurst Scholarship funds. The
scholarships were given based on academics
and membership in good standing.
Below is the list of recipients.
Congratulations to these brothers for
earning their scholarships!
Jimmy Drennan accepts his scholarship check
from AVC President Dave Denner '76.

Fall Scholarships
Hubert Hayden '40, father of Kirk Hayden '75,
graduated from the Missouri School of Mines
with a chemical engineering degree. In 1940,
graduation diplomas were six-by-eight inches and
made of copper and included nail holes in the
corners for hanging.
Weighing in at 5.65 ounces, the diploma was
worth many times its weight in gold, and in
Kirk's words, "It is priceless."
In the 1940s, everyone who graduated from MSM
was guaranteed a job. Hubert's first was working
for Conoco Oil Company in Oklahoma, digging
ditches! He went on to have a fabulous career as
an oil-drilling engineer all over the West. Kirk
was born in Wyoming.
