A Lasting Impact MASON EMBRACES THE BENEFITS OF BROTHERHOOD " W hen I went to college, I wanted to take full advantage of every opportunity," Mason Strom '16 shared. "One of the best things about being a Delt was that I was instantly connected to a group of men who were already involved in so many areas on campus. Together, we took on leaderships roles and coordinated clubs, like Into the Street and Big Event." Upon his arrival to Oklahoma State University, Mason planned on living in Stout Hall and gradually becoming involved on campus, but that all changed when his friend invited him to the Shelter three days before he planned to move in. "The rest is history," he added. After graduating with a degree in management information systems, Mason backpacked China for three weeks, then moved to Dallas, Texas, to work as a project manager for ISN. The company was led by two Delta Chi alumni, Brian Callahan '94 and Joe Eastin '92. Additionally, Vaughn Vennerbeurg '76 joined forces with Mason to help him find housing upon arriving to Dallas. "These alumni served as great professional role models and helped shape the beginning of my career." Finding his way back to Oklahoma, Mason and his wife moved to Edmond, where Mason works for an IT consulting firm, InterWorks, as a system engineer and IT project manager. Still, Mason remains close to his roots, sharing, "I've kept my connection to the fraternity alive by designing Wi-Fi networks for most of the new chapters at OSU, including the new Shelter." Additionally, Mason works on the Alumni Supervisory Committee, and before that, he was an assistant chapter advisor and served on the House Corporation. "I do my best to give my time to the chapter," Mason enthused. "I hope to be a liaison between the current membership and the alumni." To Mason, the fraternity experience is invaluable. Looking back, Mason recalls being told that the men he meets will hold a lasting impact in life. "I didn't fully believe it then," Mason admits, "but when I got married, it was my brothers that walked my grandmothers to their seats and stood next to me while I made my vows. When my wife and I rushed to the hospital to give birth to our daughter, it was my pledge brother that took care of my dog while we were gone." Reminiscing, Mason said, "The best part is that, although my brothers are dispersed around the world, we show up when it counts, and it's as if no time has passed at all. That's what makes brotherhood special." In his pastime, Mason enjoys music and plays drums for several churches in the Edmond and Stillwater areas. "In fact, I am about to leave for a weeklong mission trip to inland Jamaica where we will build houses during the day and teach children music in the evening," Mason shared. After that, he will excitedly resume his Saturday gatherings with brothers in which they meet for game nights. "It's a great way to stay connected with the Delts that have helped me so far in my life." To connect with Mason, you can reach him at masonstrom92@gmail.com. We proudly stood on the shoulders of those who came before us as well as those who came after us. Over 1,500 Delts have crossed the threshold of our Shelter. Sadly, some have also crossed over into the Chapter Eternal. The lives and accomplishments of Delta Chi brothers shaped our municipalities, states, and our country. We can be proud of our countless accomplishments. We are Delts forever. Fraternally, Stephen E.
