Until this ramp was installed, brother Jake Levin '25 had been unable to enter The Barn without assistance from others. On occasion, brothers would offer to carry him inside, but that meant leaving his only means of mobility outside on the sidewalk. Chapter President Mitch Crist '24 reached out to the BCA in early 2022 seeking assistance in providing Jake accessibility. BCA member and former Chapter President Mark Rice '77 immediately stepped forward to help the Chapter apply for assistance through the Home Builders Foundation, an organization for which he volunteers. BCA member Michael Awn '85 donated architectural renderings for review by the City of Boulder and the property owner/ management company. Mark then coordinated with HBF and all involved parties to see the project through to completion. After utilizing the new ramp and entering the house for the very first time on his own, Jake sat for an interview with the Boulder Daily Camera, who published an article detailing the event. "One of (Phi Gamma Delta's) main values is friendship," Mitch said. "I don't think you are committed to the value of friendship without giving that opportunity to everyone. It was necessary to get (Jake) in and make him a member. We realized if he was going to be a brother, we had to figure out a way to get him in."
