Phi Mu - Louisiana State University

M y name is Alex Jarquin '19, and I am honored to serve as the 2022 president of Alpha Eta. First, I must recognize our recent graduates; we know their next endeavors will take them to great places. Meeting our new Phis has been the highlight of our time so far this school year, and we are excited to show them the unique bond of sisterhood that awaits them in Phi Mu. Our Chapter supports Our Lady of the Lake Children's Hospital by raising funds and awareness. At the 2022 Phi Mu National Convention, Alpha Eta received the Most Improved Fundraising Award for raising $59,551 for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. Every spring, our Dance Marathon team looks forward to dancing, fundraising, and listening to the stories of the families we support. is year, our Chapter was the highest fundraising Greek organization and the second-highest fundraising organization on campus for Dance Marathon. Alpha Eta raised $80,966 for the 2021-22 academic year. Another exciting accomplishment this spring was winning Songfest. Paired with 13 men from Sigma Phi Epsilon, our 13-women Phi Mu Songfest team choreographed and performed a high-energy hip-hop routine, titled Fast and Furious, that wowed the crowd! Also wowing the crowd (and the judges) was Jillian Elliott '20, who was crowned Miss LSU 2022. She accepted the crown from her AH sister, Hannah Fontenot '19, Miss LSU 2021. In fall 2021, we were thrilled to welcome 102 new members to Phi Mu. Ashlynn Sorrells '19, our previous Phi director, had a great time meeting our new members. "Meeting the new Phis was the highlight of my experience as Phi director," she said. "So much planning went into that moment, and seeing their excitement on Bid Day made everything worth it." Our new members took part in a retreat at the house followed by our "Phi Hop" breakfast before game day. Phi Board also hosted a Phi-Lympic games for Phis to meet new friends and compete against each other in a series of relay races. is past year, we hosted many activities to get our members back in the house face-to-face. Events included a karaoke night, workout classes, pumpkin carving, and bingo. Our Chapter also enjoyed a paintball sisterhood retreat and invited other sororities to our Movies at the Mu event at the Chapter House to bring Panhellenic women together. Alpha Eta hosted Parent's Weekend last fall, and everyone had a great time. Additionally, the Chapter hosted an Easter Egg Hunt and Trick or Treat Down the Row, and alumnae were invited into the house to share their experiences with their loved ones. For Founders' Day, we connected and met many alumnae who shared their memories from Phi Mu. We are lucky and thankful for all the support extended by parents and alumnae. We can't wait to see you all in person when you visit 4090 W. Lakeshore to see what Alpha Eta is up to.
