As we get busy with the chores and responsibilities of everyday life, we can often lose sight of its preciousness. The reality is that the seasons of life will inevitably change. Whether it be through the natural transition from childhood to adulthood, a retirement, or through the experience of death, nothing in life ever stays the same. Who is here today, may not be there tomorrow. We get lulled into thinking that we will always have a tomorrow. We forget that at any given moment our life could be altered forever. Whether it be through the avenue of a personal conversation, an unknown health issue, a phone call or an unavoidable accident, our house of cards could instantly tumble. One of life's greatest regrets is wishing we had another chance, and realizing it is gone forever. The bible exhorts us in Ephesians 5:16 that we should be "Redeeming the time." In other words, we should never think that we will have another opportunity to do what needs to be done today. Today is the day to show your love. Today is the day to make right a wrong. Today is the day to give or to seek forgiveness. Today is the day to draw close to God. Today is the day to do whatever it is that you have been putting off. It is easy to think that we have forever, but we must realize that forever may end today.
