Through Their Eyes Why is Pi Phi important to you? Because of the incredible friends I have made in all walks of life. It is the people who make Pi Phi so great. What are you most grateful for because of Pi Phi? The friendships I have made, the scholarships and the relationship I have with alumnae advisors. I love all the connections I have through Pi Phi. It truly has helped Stillwater become a home away from home. What has changed within you, or within your life, because of your membership in Pi Beta Phi? My eyes have opened to my leadership capabilities, and I have been much more willing to step out of my comfort zone and befriend those around me. It has given me the confidence to step out in boldness to lead and assist those around me. Lizzy White '17 Nutritional Science | Allen, Texas In three words, what does Pi Beta Phi mean to you? My second home. Why is Pi Phi important to you now? These past few years, amidst a global pandemic, Pi Phi has taught me to live in the present and not to take gathering with family, friends and even strangers for granted. Pi Phi is important to me now, more than ever before, because I have been able to lean on the relationships I gained as a member. What has changed within you, or within your life, because of your membership in Pi Beta Phi? Pi Phi has provided me with support and confidence to put myself out in the world to pursue my goals. Grace Rykard '17 Architecture | Edmond, Oklahoma Why is Pi Phi important to you? Pi Phi has provided me with a community of sisters who go above and beyond, opportunities to serve others, leadership opportunities, lifelong connections, skills and so much more. Pi Phi was one thing that remained constant throughout the pandemic. With virtual meetings, bible studies, events and games, Pi Phi made sure no one felt alone. What are you most grateful for because of Pi Phi? I am most grateful for the memories that have been created from the chapter house and the friendships that have been created. Living with all of my best friends, talking to girls down the hall, late-night popcorn runs and so much more. Living in house is where Pi Beta Phi came to life for me. What has changed within you, or within your life, because of your membership in Pi Beta Phi? Through my membership within Pi Beta Phi, I have grown so much personally, which has overflowed into my life. I am confident that I am fully equipped for what is to come post-graduation. Grace Anderson '19 Communication Science and Disorders | Ada, Oklahoma Sororities are more relevant today than ever before. At Oklahoma State, sorority membership is at an all-time high and continues to expand. Even during the pandemic, OSU recruitment and retention numbers continued to grow. Recent nationwide research, listed below, solidifies the continued importance of fraternity or sorority membership. • Fraternity/sorority members show greater overall involvement and engagement on campus and in the classroom. (Pi Kappa Alpha 2020) • Fraternity and sorority students report positive health scores and lower levels of depression and anxiety compared to unaffiliated students. (Biddix, Assalone and Grace 2020) • Fraternity/sorority alumni report thriving in every area of their wellbeing: 62% in career wellbeing, 66% in community wellbeing, 51% in financial wellbeing, 53% in physical wellbeing and 62% in social wellbeing (Gallup 2020). • Nearly two-thirds of affiliated alumni selected a 9 or 10 on a scale where 10 is the highest likelihood to recommend their alma mater (Gallup 2020).
