Continuing the Beta Upsilon Tradition 100 Centennial Campaign W e urge your thoughtful consideration of this project. You are the only one who can place a value on your Beta Theta Pi membership—on the lifelong friendships you made, on the values and principles that were instilled in you, and on the many ways Beta Upsilon enhanced your time at MIT. All the Brothers who came before us made it possible for us to experience Beta. Now it is our turn to guarantee future generations of Beta Upsilon Brothers will have the same opportunities that we treasure today. Gift Structure Because of the magnitude of our objectives, we are urging all alumni to consider major gifts to the campaign. In order for each alumnus to maximize his participation, gifts can be structured over a five-year pledge period. However, early gifts to the campaign are preferable to help reduce borrowing costs. Donor Recognition Each of us, simply by our presence, has contributed to the history of Beta Upsilon. How appropriate then that each of our names be entered into its halls. Each donor who contributes $2,500 or more will be recognized on a prominently displayed plaque in the Main House and in campaign publications. Names will appear by category, relative to the size of the gift. Gifts in honor or in memory of Brothers, as well as family and pledge class gifts, are welcomed. Recognition in such cases will be given to both the donor and the honoree. Tax-Deductible Gifts Gifts to the campaign are 100% tax deductible through the Beta Theta Pi Foundation. Gifts to the Foundation will be designated for Beta Upsilon's Designated Educational Area Fund. These funds will be granted back to the Beta Upsilon Chapter to cover the cost of renovations of educational areas in the facilities such as the library, study room, and computer room, as well as educational furnishings, including computer equipment and Internet access. Gifts of securities are encouraged, as there are often significant tax advantages to the donor. For professional advice, please consult your tax advisor. Non-Tax-Deductible Gifts Needed A portion of the project is deemed non-educational, which means there is a need for contributions that are not tax deductible to complete the project with minimal debt placed on the Chapter. Therefore, donors are encouraged to consider directing a portion of their gift to the Beta Upsilon Association. Your investment in Beta Upsilon will directly impact the lives of our current and future members. Today, perhaps more than ever, it is important that we provide young college men with a small group-living environment that offers a solid foundation for their education—affording them opportunities for high academic achievement and the development of leadership and social skills. We recognize that each of us benefited from the generosity, work, and sacrifice of those who went before us. We all enjoyed the home and brotherhood Beta Upsilon provided during our years at MIT. Now it is our turn to stretch our giving and support the financial challenge associated with this project. The commitment we make today cannot be underestimated—it will have a ripple effect on the lives of our Beta Brothers for years to come.
