Dr. Tim Cornelius, Vice President of Career and Workforce Education at NWACC Ray Taylor, Director of Construction Technology and Building Sciences your work, your community or even the world. "Three departments work together," Ray Taylor, Director of Construction Technology and Building Sciences, said. "Auto, construction, and art. We came together to develop a curriculum on design thinking that we all use and teach with. Be it art, construction, or auto—we all use it and apply it in different ways." This integrated design concept was a big part of how NWACC was able to procure a National Science Foundation grant. "Those grants are not easy to get," Dr. Jorgenson said. "They often go to big universities and so we were really delighted that we were able to get that here at the Community College." Students participating in NWACC's Integrated Design program can take their creative passion and make it their profession by building an educational foundation in artistic creativity, design- thinking principles, construction methods, and business practices. Working with the Fayetteville Chamber on their Fab Lab Before the Integrated Design Lab at NWACC opened its doors, Dr. Cornelius helped Steve Clark get the Fayetteville Chamber's Fab Lab up and running. "I looked at MIT's Fab Lab program and I thought 'this is really cool,'" Dr. Cornelieus said. "So, I talked to Steve and we started thinking about it. At the time they were in the building that's just west of where they are now so they really didn't have space. But when they got in this new building there was space for it." After the two discussed the idea further, the decision was made to go forward. "We started with some 3D printing and it's grown from there," Dr. Cornelius continued.
