GILDAY RENOVATIONS
SILVER SPRING, MARYLAND
Whenever the homeowners looked out their
French doors to nowhere, they wondered if the doors
were supposed to lead to a deck – or something –
but a previous renovation had fizzled before the issue
could be resolved. The owners realized they didn't
need another deck, they wanted a porch that would
overlook the swimming pool patio below, and the
fields and woods beyond. Those once-idle French
doors now lead to a spectacularly simple, restful and
beautiful space. The stairway down from the porch is
finished with wrought iron railings which were
continued around the perimeter of the raised patio
and on the Juliet balcony above.

ALAIR HOMES DECATUR
DECATUR, GEORGIA
Purchased for its location and potential, the owners knew it
would take a lot to get this home in shape – but that beneath
all the issues was a showstopper. Because the home sat on a
hill facing downtown, the homeowners knew a skyline view
was possible. Adding a historically appropriate covered
second-story porch created a beautiful space and added lots
of charm. The wide-open entry, as well as the details at
windows and porches, are just a few additional reasons this
home is a treat – and why it's now a showpiece that fits
perfectly with the neighborhood, and a celebration of a
beautiful historic renovation.
