4 FROM ONE SISTER TO ANOTHER Jane and her husband, Gary Brandt. "I wanted to feel that I was making a significant contribution that reflected my love of Alpha Phi and gratitude for my experience. I don't want to even contemplate how different my college experience would have been if I had not pledged." (Continued from page 1) Omicron's impact has been lifelong, and something Jane certainly didn't anticipate when she joined as a collegian. Jane has applied what she learned from her time in the chapter to her career, which included more than 30 years as a newspaper journalist before founding Sutter Communications in 2015. As a solo entrepreneur, she provides writing, editing, self-publishing, and public relations services. "I've written three books of nostalgia set in my hometown; I assisted a remarkable woman in writing her memoir; and I have edited my husband's fiction and other authors' books and helped to publish them," Jane said. "Being an entrepreneur is a constant learning experience, and my work continues to evolve." Jane firmly believes that her giving back to Omicron Chapter will help ensure future Alpha Phis benefit in the same way that she did. When she was an undergraduate, the alumnae supported the chapter in a variety of ways, and now Jane believes it's her turn to do the same. "Deciding to give back to Omicron's campaign was an easy decision," Jane shared. "I wanted to feel that I was making a significant contribution that reflected my love of Alpha Phi and gratitude for my experience. I don't want to even contemplate how different my college experience would have been if I had not pledged." Since she lives in Rochester, New York, Jane can't serve on the House Corporation Board or help with in-person chapter activities, so donating to the Omicron fund is her way to contribute to the chapter. "If you value what you gained from your years on campus as an Alpha Phi, please strongly consider making a donation that is within your budget," Jane advises. "Your donation will aid in creating a positive experience for young women trying to learn and develop into being meaningful contributors to society." Her sisters remain some of her best friends, and she enjoys keeping in touch through Facebook and occasionally meeting in-person. "I treasure my memories of the chapter's 100th anniversary celebration that I attended in 2010 when I got to see so many of my sisters," Jane said. "I am looking forward to attending the ribbon-cutting of the new home in October." Jane will celebrate 30 years of marriage to her husband, Gary, on August 15. She has two wonderful stepchildren and three amazing grandchildren. You can visit Jane's website at suttermedia.net or connect with her at janesutter01@gmail.com.
