THETA OMEGA page 3 A fter our first semester back to in- person learning, we had 20 members achieve a GPA of 4.0. This is difficult to achieve in normal conditions, much less after returning to a classroom setting after having online classes for three semesters. Math major Holly Rassette '19 said she "had to work hard to get used to school in person again after having online classes for so long," and that she is "happy to have upper-level math classes back in person because they are challenging on their own!" We are very proud of our Deltas for the hard work they have put into their academic success while still attending chapter functions and other campus groups and activities. Exercise science major Paige Williams '21 says she balances her schoolwork by "finding sisters in [her] classes that [she] can study and do work with." Paige says, "By building these friendships within the classroom as well, it makes it easy to do homework together after events or study sessions over dinner." This school year, we have made a great effort to encourage our members to complete their service hours, not only because they are required, but also because it is a pinnacle part of being a Tri Delta member. We are trying to change the perspective on required service hours from being a punishment to instead being an opportunity to help our community and better the city of Lawrence. Last semester, we partnered with the United Way of Lawrence to repaint a literacy trail in a local underprivileged neighborhood. This semester, we volunteered as a chapter at a local elementary school, Sunflower Elementary, for their Fun Run/Walk 5K. We urge our members to finish their hours early in the semester and to go beyond the 12-hour minimum requirement. Community Service Chairman Anne Gill '19 does her best to find as many opportunities as possible and discuss them at chapter meetings or communicate them via Teams. At the beginning of this semester, she promoted volunteering at organizations with causes members are passionate about or organizations that are in their future job field. So far this semester, many members have volunteered at hospitals, retirement homes, after- school programs and many other local and KU-related organizations. In the past semester, our chapter has had the opportunity to host amazing social events, including a costume party called Old Maid, which is a Tri Delta tradition where it is typical for the president of the chapter to dress as an old maid. The themed parties continued with our Valentine's Day party, Cupids Crush. The event was hosted at McClain's Market, where we enjoyed their delicious cookies and a charcuterie spread. It was so fabulous to see everyone in different shades of red and pink! We thank Melanie Almendarez '19 for her amazing work, and we are excited to welcome the new officers and watch what they have in store. This has also been a successful year for philanthropy! So far, we have raised over $56,000 for St. Jude, and we are on track to beat our chapter record for total amount raised. This year, we renamed our 24-hour virtual fundraiser from 10K in a Day to 20K in a Day. We shattered our goal, raising a record breaking $30,185 in 24 hours. We had a blast at Delta Diner on April 21! Our annual pancake dinner party featured delicious pancakes, a toppings bar and fun activities to raise money for St. Jude. We were excited to host this event in person again and invite the Lawrence community into the chapter facility!
