When Redstone's
Winchester Road
branch staff learned
that Chapman
Elementary School
needed a few bikes
to reward students for reading
lots and lots of books – the staff
rose to the challenge.
Princeton Taylor, Winchester
Road branch manager, said that
when the school 's request came
in, the branch team was excited
to help. ey pooled their
personal funds and used some
money allocated for community
outreach to buy three bikes.
Additional bikes were donated
by other organizations for a
total of six.
Chapman's Readathon
launched in March, and
students in grades 1 – 5 were
encouraged to increase the
number of books they read
during that time. e school's
goal was 1 million words.
Principal Stewart orson
said that the goal was for
each student to improve their
reading – as measured by
number of words read – by 20%.

surprising to me is that not all students have bicycles,
and if they do – they might be the wrong size."
e top reader from each grade received a new bike.
