GAMMA PHI BETA 3 S tacey Nentwig Greer '89 grew up hearing stories from her mother, Anne Richardson Koch '61, about her mom's "Gamma Phi friends." This included Stacey's godmother, Susan Richter Krombach '62, as well as her aunts Janet Nentwig Schoedinger '59 and Cindy Richardson Mantler '63. When Stacey's older sister, Kim Nentwig '86, pledged Alpha Delta at Mizzou, Stacey knew she wanted the same if she went to college there—and she did just that, pledging in her sophomore year. "I felt very proud and excited to join our sisterhood," she said. Kim being president during Stacey's recruitment was the icing on the cake! The family sisterhood grew once again when Stacey's daughters, Sydney '15 and Lauryn Greer '18, joined Alpha Delta. "Having them in Gamma Phi (or 'G-Phi' as younger members call it) has been so exciting for our family," Stacey said. "We all have special Gamma Phi friends who are a regular part of our lives." When Anne looks back at her undergraduate Alpha Delta years, she cherishes the hard work her sisters always accomplished as a team as well as the values and lifelong friendships they developed along the way. "The philosophies were very meaningful in guiding me through life," she said. "I have thought about our four founders from time to time and marveled at their wisdom." Anne is extremely proud to share Gamma Phi Beta with her daughters and granddaughters as well. "The continued connections have been an unexpected pleasure." "It has been terrific to share Gamma Phi Beta and its growth since the late '60s to today," Generations of Love and Loyalty The Nentwig-Greer Family Show Their Gamma Phi Gratitude Janet said. "The younger members keep me interested in what is going on in the chapter." A New Generation Lauryn, a recent alumna, came to Mizzou when her older sister, Sydney, was a senior. They were unable to see each other in the two weeks prior to Lauryn's Bid Day. "She's my best friend, so that was really hard— but I had my mom with me every step of the way, which made it easier," Lauryn said. When the day finally came, the first person Lauryn ran to was Sydney. "It was the absolute best feeling." Both Greer sisters held Alpha Delta leadership roles as undergraduates. Sydney was involved in alumnae relations, and Lauryn served as education vice president her sophomore year— in the spring of 2020 when the pandemic struck. "I learned things about myself that I might never have uncovered if I hadn't committed to that role," she said of that strange year. "It was a scary time between not knowing how to move forward but forcing ourselves to move forward." Lauryn and her fellow executive sisters were scared, but they never gave up on each other and faced each challenge as a team. "We may not have fixed the world, but we worked together to fulfill our roles and improve anything we could." Anne held a similar role as Lauryn, known as pledge trainer at the time. She and Stacey were proud to see Lauryn and Sydney grow as leaders in Alpha Delta. "I think there was a pride and desire to represent the house in that way," Stacey said. Lifelong Bonds Each family member has close friendships and networks that they can attribute to Gamma Phi. Stacey and her pledge daughter, Jenny Priggel Shively '90, are great friends to this day, and their daughters have become close through Alpha Delta as well. Stacey has also had the privilege of working with fellow Gamma Phis in her counseling private practice. Sydney works with an Alpha Delta sister in the NICU, and their supervisor is a Gamma Phi as well. Janet meets with a group of six alumnae for lunch or dinner—a small tradition that's lasted more than 50 years. Cindy hasn't lived in Missouri for years, but she still comes back to visit Gamma Phi friends. The sisterhood has also supported the Greer and Nentwig Gamma Phis in tough times. When the family dealt with a traumatic loss two years ago, Stacey's pledge class was there for them. "I cannot even tell you how supportive they were." The pandemic also halted travel plans and Christmas get- togethers, but the sisters have done their best to stay connected through recent challenges. "Whether from other schools or different generations, every Gamma Phi I've met just seems to have a positive influence and energy," Stacey said. "I am so proud of everyone's achievements and their contributions to Alpha Delta and to the larger world in which they all live," Janet said of the family. "It really is an amazing group of women."
