Paul Linscott grew up exploring caves with family and friends as a child. He loved it so much, that when he grew up he bought his very own cave! The Old Spanish Treasure Cave is located right here in Northwest Arkansas, in an area known as Treasure Hollow, and it's one of the Ozark's biggest and most fascinating mysteries. When you visit, you'll learn all about the Spanish Conquistadors and their hidden treasure in the cave. Some even believe that there's treasure still in the cave waiting to be discovered! an ancient legend comes to life The legend of The Old Spanish Treasure Cave says that Spanish soldiers raided an Indian camp and stole their fortune in gold and then hid the gold in one of the cave's passageways. The Indians were seeking revenge and found the Spaniards in the cave and killed them, but were never able to recover the gold. Treasure hunters searched for years for the missing gold, but it was never found. The cave was rediscovered in 1885 and was opened to the public in the late 1930s as a tourist attraction. There are ongoing expeditions throughout the caves that have brought discoveries of hidden rail tracks and symbols carved into the walls. Plus, there are many hidden rooms and tunnels still waiting to be explored! The Treasure Cave is a true adventure for every member of the family. Take the one-hour tour that guides you through the well-lit cave while learning all about the treasure… how it got there, clues left behind by the Conquistadors, and what's being done right now to find it! The cave is known as a maze cavern because it has passageways and rooms leading everywhere, and in those rooms, you'll see a variety of formations and maybe even cave animals like bats and salamanders. They also offer a Camp in the Cave program for scouting groups. Your own treasure hunt You can go on a treasure hunt of your own with gemstone panning, where you search for real gems, rocks, minerals, crystals, and fossils. Pick up a bag and "sluice" through it to find your own treasure. Each bag is unique, so you never know what you're going to find. And don't worry about the weather—even if it's cold and wet, or hot and muggy outside—inside the cavern it's always a comfortable 58 degrees. After your cave exploration, be sure to make a stop in the gift and rock shop in an historic log cabin built in the 1850s. You'll find souvenirs, fossils, T-shirts, handmade jewelry, and more. The Old Spanish Treasure Cave offers mystery, exploration, and a unique adventure for the entire family to enjoy. Watch movies in a cave! When you are done panning for gems, searching for treasure, and exploring the cave it's time for movie night! The Treasure Cave offers an Underground Movie Event that is unlike any movie theatre you've ever been in. The Cave's Big Council Room has been converted to a theatre, where they show popular movies like Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Goonies, E.T. and more! Check their website or their Facebook page for schedule and details. Many different species of salamanders call the cave home. This COOL Ozark Blind Salamander is one of them.
