HOUSE BOARD UPDATE Farewell to Linda For twenty-nine years, Linda Orman has been loyally protecting 512 Rollins and the thousands of girls who called it home. "Did you realize that two thousand girls have called you 'Mom' over the years, Linda?" "Probably more than that, if you think about it," she says, with the unmistakable smile of a proud mother. In the early '90s, Linda came to Theta Chapter for what she thought would be a one-year position. She had heard of the posting from a friend on the House Board but didn't know what the day-to- day would look like. "It was the first of August 1993 right before work week. I didn't know what the job was, and once work week was over, I didn't know if I could make it," she laughs. Linda assimilated in quick stride and has been hiring staff, arranging for meals, paying bills, and taking care of our chapter home ever since. Linda has continuously pivoted to meet the needs of our historic house and all the sisters who have lived there. She converted all the house director's bookkeeping from hand-written checks to Intuit QuickBooks. More recently, she handled the pandemic calmly, although she counts it as one of the most challenging times of her tenure. "I had to stay in my apartment during COVID and try to keep my distance," she recounts. "It was so hard to not be around the girls. I usually like to stop and visit with them, and I couldn't do that." One of her favorite times was the renovation of her apartment. Linda was thrilled to see the modernization, and even made brownies and cookies for the builders' coffee breaks. "One of the guys told me he loved red velvet cheese- cake, so I made it for him! He didn't think I would," she smiles. "My new apartment is so comfortable. Everyone who comes here loves it, and I absolutely love my kitchen!" Linda won't only be missed at 512 Rollins. She volunteered at the Boone Hospital gift shop, attended exercise classes at the new rec center, and attended First Presbyterian Church pre-COVID. Once she packs her last boxes this summer, Linda will be moving back to Sedalia to be closer to her family. "My favorite part has been the girls," she says. "I'll really miss them. This is the best job I've ever had." Theta Chapter is incredibly grateful for Linda's long and loyal service. Linda encourages anyone to keep in touch with her via email (linda.orman@ gmail.com) or connect via Facebook. Cards and messages can also be sent to 512 Rollins until the end of June. We will miss you "Mom!"
